"Iconia TAB Update Enhancement"

Ok, I installed this from the Market this morning, after finally seeing the post
in XDA about how to actually find it (My Apps, scroll to bottom, and if it's not
installed, it'll be in the Not Installed section).

Does anyone have any idea what this "update enhancement" is, and what it does?

Yea, its needed for the updater to be able to install new firmware ( thats what I read)

Agreed.

I know everything is supposedly "safe" on the Market (sorry, "Play") ... but this seems VERY fishy to me and I won't be out looking for it. If it's required to update my phone, HTC will push it, IMHO.

I wouldn't worry about it for your phone, the name of it is ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement and it's published by Acer, making this an Iconia tablet specific application. For those reasons I actually had little concern over installing it.

Sorry ... I have an Iconia as well ... brain fart as to which device I was talking about! My household includes: A500, Toshiba Thrive, HTC Rezound, and my husbands HTC Android phone (Incredible I think?) ... starting to have a hard time keeping everything straight evidently!

If it is indeed published by Acer, that's one thing ... but what if it's specifically for the UK version, or the Thailand version ... or what-have-you version and not my run of the mill North American version? We have seen differences in programming in models released in different geographic regions. I'll still wait for them to give it to me specifically ... I have no complaints as it stands!

its wierd because when i read about this update on here i went to install and it was allready installed. but i didnt get any notification saying update complete i i didnt look i wouldnt have known it had updated itself. and obviously as it is a new thing i couldnt of had it installed from factory....wierd just shows what companies can do to your device without you knowing

Yours was hidden? Mine was right there on the update list plain as day at the top of the market, I didn't have to go looking anywhere. I'm guessing when the time comes it will be pushed especially if it's required but in the mean time I think it's a good idea to make it available for those who want to get a leg up. Anything to help keep the servers from crashing due to demand when it does get pushed is a good idea.
