Help Icons keep moving in "Applications"

i am using fw 2.3.5 on my phone which had been updated through kies a while back. one thing that it annoying me a little is the applications and when i arrange them how i want they change when i reboot.

most pages stay correct but the main page 1 keeps changing from how i set it on rebooting.

anyone else had ths or know how to fix it, i dont want to go through having to do a reset if possible as its just a hassle sorting everything out.

james

Clearing data for whichever launcher you are using should solve the problem. This will reset your homescreens to default so make a note of where everything is first.

Hi there guys

Not like it's a life endangering issue, in fact it's quite harmless, but really annoying....and I'm curious to find out what's the reason behind it.

I have 4 screens in the "applications". 3 are full of icons and 4th is almost full, with 2 spaces left.

Now and then, for no reason, the 4 screens turn into 6.
1 and 2 (sometimes 3) are full of icons, then (3), 4, 5 and 6 have two, 3 or 5 icons each. Random icons, few per screen, uneven number of them on each... I keep arranging it back to the way I like them, but it seem Galaxy doesn't agree with it.

any thoughts what could it be ?

regards
Sebastian

Don't really know why it happens but if you go to settings, applications, manager applications then clear data for your launcher it should sort the problem.

Just make a note of were everything is on your homescreens as these will get set back to default

I have this exact issue as well, since i updated to 2.3.5 my icons in the applications menu keep changing after i move them how i want. after i reboot they have moved about.

shotgun, what is the name of the default app launcher, i had a look to reset the data but couldnt see it in the list.

it is really annoying, id like my icons as i set them.

same same James

This start happening after the upgrade, in my case tho, it was 2.3.6
And by the way, I too was just looking though the apps and couldn't find the Launcher.
I haven't install any 3rd party, using the stock app and no rooting...

cheers

If you follow the instructions to the manage app page you will need to click on the all tab at the top as its probably defaulted to downloaded. The stock launcher is called TW Launcher.

hmm the only thing i seem to have close in 'all' is twwallpaperchooser, i dont have tw with anything else after it.
id really like to fix this issue though if anyone has any other ways, the phone just needs to save the list as i select it. i do select the menu buttom after i change the icons and select save, i just dont know why isnt not saving.

Its definitely called tw launcher so I guess you must be using a third party one. Try clicking on the running tab. A launcher will definitely be running on your phone so it might be easier to find it there.

i am deffinitly using the built in launcher not a 3rd party one. sebakl, do you see this twlauncher as shotgun has mentioned, you seem to be using the same setup as me, not rooted, same os, not using a 3rd party launcher etc..

let us know. it would be odd if you cant see it as well as me, if its not running on our phones it could be the reason why its not saving at shutdown maybe?

Sorry I didn't think that it could be called something different on branded phones. What do you have in running. I'm sure we can narrow it down.

A way to determine what your default launcher is called would be to download another free launcher from the market such as go launcher. Then press the home button. You will then get asked to complete the action using go launcher or your stock one.

ahh thank you so much matty, i have just cleared data on samsung home and its all reset and i got an option to reselect the homescreen i want to use, i am just in the middle or re-arranging my icons so not sure if its worked yet in regards to if the icons all move again once i reboot.

thanks

i can confirm that after clearing the data from twlauncher or samsung home as matty pointed out has fixed my long time issue of my icons moving about.

after i cleared the cache i was asked to reselect which homescreen i wanted, i then had to sort my home screen again as well as my applications menu the way i wanted it, but after i completed that and saved it, i restarted my phone and everything has stayed where i wanted it too!

thank you very much to all who have given advice.

I think this should be made a sticky since so many people seem to have this issue?

Samsung never cease to amaze me. First they let people bring out 10 completely different phones all with the name gs2. Now I find out they let carriers change the name of their apps.

Glad you got it sorted though.

Hey SebaKL, you might be looking at the wrong place.

Go to settings/manage applications/

Then select the "all" tab because it won't be in the download tab. Then scroll down until you find Twlauncher. You should be using the same phone as mine.

Cheers

If you follow the instructions to the manage app page you will need to click on the all tab at the top as its probably defaulted to downloaded. The stock launcher is called TW Launcher.

I have done exactly as wots being said, app manager-all- tw launcher, click into it but mine says that theres nothing to clear. its at 0.00. Any1 help?

This seems to be issue post 2.3.6 upgrade, I am also facing the same issue. The icons movement is a issue. I am using default launcher and not any app..anyone have any idea for default home/screen?

jamie, not sure what you need help with exactly?
if you have cleared the cache as mentioned above, the icons and homescreen do reset, once you have moved everything where you want them, they should now stay put.

Dont know if this is related but I too have found icons to mysteriously move to either another screen or the Home screen.?? I'm still on 2.3.4.
