I think there is a simple answer to that: Asus does not test. Or at least not on a large enough number of devices.
On DXA, devs have pinpointed the problems and informed Asus. It's a kernel thing. They flashed Honeycomb onto an ill ICS TF and it kept suffering from RR/SoD issues. But flashing HC did not replace the kernel. After flashing a stable kernel, the same unit was stable with HC as well as with ICS.
Asus was informed about this. Yet they keep rolling out "fixes" that fix absolutely nothing.
Asus is just not taking this seriously. When you call their support desk, they still suggest you to do a factory reset, while we all know by now that this does not change one bit.
I think we have three options.
1. Sell our TF and get a device that's properly supported. A Samsung maybe. But for me, that's a no go, my conscience won't let me bring this mess upon somebody else.
2. Wait and pray that JellyBean (due q3 2012) irons things out. Knowing Asus, my guess is that JB will only bring more instability.
3. Wait for a solution from the developers community (XDA). This will require root, voiding warranty, but I think this will be a small price to pay.
Meanwhile, I think it's our responsability to grab every opportunity to warn potential Asus buyers of the danger. Just like us, they risc buying a good tablet, only to see it raped by a flawed upgrade a few months later. I think we should comment on every site, blog or forum where Asus products are being reviewed.
