Help ICS - Android OS used 355Mb of my data plan :-(

no66

Newbie
Since upgrading to ICS I have a major problem.

I have a 500mb data plan every month. I switched on Data Network yesterday and this morning 372 mb had been used up! Looking at Data usage the main culprit was Android OS @ 355mb! I have Wifi on at home.

Never had this problem before. I could leave Data network on and use about 350- 450 mb a month with general use.

How can I see what is actually going on and what setting is causing android OS to downloadn the background. I haven't changed any settings since upgrading to ICS.

Makes the phone a bit useless as I don't trust having Data network on.....

Go to settings, data usage, left soft key (options) and click restrict background data.

You can also see what apps are using your data!

Thank you!

Yes, I could see what apps had used all the mb, but was wondering what actually Android OS downloaded.

are you looking at the ICS data monitor or your networks own app? my ICS monitor told me last week I'd used 450 out of 500mb then when I checked on my vodafone I'd only used 240
mb. the ICS monitor does say "your network may calculate data differently" so I guess that was the issue with my phone/vodafone
