ICS... CSC are you eligible for an update?

Hi, thanks for putting this list together, really useful!

I have a slight problem though, the CSC that I get with *#1234# doesn't match the CSC in Kies.

In Kies it's ETC but on the phone it's OJV. I'm guessing there probably won't be an ETC update any time soon so is there any way to change the Kies CSC to OJV too so I can upgrade through Kies?

If not and I upgraded via Odin would I be ok and not breach the warranty if I upgraded to OJV?

I have used Kies to upgrade previously (to 2.3.5) and it worked fine. Apart from that upgrade I have never flashed it/rooted it.

I'm not from either of those two countries (Nigeria/Turkey), I'm actually from Australia so I don't mind which region's firmware I'm on as long as I can get ICS working. Been waiting way too long for it to appear!

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Rigby! :)

Hi, thanks for putting this list together, really useful!

I have a slight problem though, the CSC that I get with *#1234# doesn't match the CSC in Kies.

In Kies it's ETC but on the phone it's OJV.

I've never heard of a Samsung CSC code, "ETC", before!

The OJV code covers, Bahrain and Turkey.

I'm guessing there probably won't be an ETC update any time soon so is there any way to change the Kies CSC to OJV too so I can upgrade through Kies?

I'm guessing that your phone has been flashed at sometime in the past, as per post #1.

If not and I upgraded via Odin would I be ok and not breach the warranty if I upgraded to OJV?

Since I cannot trace any CSC code for, "ETC", which would, "appear", to be your original code as recognised by Kies, you will not be able to use Kies to update. Any other CSC code will invalidate your warranty... if not already invalidated. You could of course, take it to a Samsung Service Point and explain your situation to them and ask them to flash a compatible firmware for you that will not void your warranty.

I have used Kies to upgrade previously (to 2.3.5) and it worked fine. Apart from that upgrade I have never flashed it/rooted it.

You could try going to your dial pad and typing in the following code...

*#272*[Device IMEI code with no brackets]#

This may, or may not display your CSC code.

I'm not from either of those two countries (Nigeria/Turkey), I'm actually from Australia so I don't mind which region's firmware I'm on as long as I can get ICS working. Been waiting way too long for it to appear!

If you are from Australia and are using the Vodafone or Telstra networks, you would be better off applying the, "T", variant firmware for the, GT-i9100T, as this contains a compatible modem required by those carriers.

Hi IronAss, a quick word of thank you: I finally took the step to upgrade thanks to all the advices you've put together, and it worked perfectly (I used an older version of Odin to have the same buttons/options as on the links you provided, as I wasn't too sure of the options to use with the latest version; it worked fine!). Looking forward to your next blog for future versions ;)

Thanks Stargasm!

This ICS thread started as a way to answer the myriad of questions regarding the Ice Cream Sandwich roll-out and suddenly took on a life of its own!

I am considering a similar thread for the Jelly Bean release which is scheduled to commence in November and, if ICS is anything to go by, will take 2 or 3 months to reach the majority of users.

ironass, definitely do the JB thread, me and a lot more people will be very grateful. This thread helped me get ICS like it's supposed to, not waiting for months on mexican carriers

Hello and welcome to Android Forums loay78! :)

You have the, "G", variant of the Galaxy S2. The, "G", version is different to the, "International", version in many ways and their firmwares are not compatible.

I'm guessing that the reason you cannot update is that it has already been flashed with a different CSC code before you had it. See under, "ICS is available for my code but I cannot update", in post #1.

This means that you will have to use Odin to update your phone, as described under, "My firmware is not eligible for ICS yet but I want it now!", in post #1.

There is no official firmware for the, "G", variant for Jordan and so you can use this, "G", variant, official, unbranded, Samsung firmware for Android 4.0.3, which covers, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and Iraq...

I cannot say if this will get round the US embargo on Play Store as this is probably based on your location.

is this possible when i buy the mobile new with factory settings??

Unfortunately, it i not the phone's fault if someone has flashed a different firmware to it.

No, this will only wipe the data but not restore the firmware to its out-of-the-box state.

Other than taking my advice about flashing the OJP firmware via Odin..

Long shot...

You could try going to your dial pad and typing in the following code...

*#272*[Device IMEI code with no brackets]#

This may, or may not, display your original CSC code. If the CSC code is something other than OJP, this could be your original firmware. If so, you can download and flash this firmware via Odin and in future, Kies may recognise your phone for updates.

i did enter the code with IMEi,
i had a secreen showing:
Sales Code: XSG
and tow options : Install / Cancel

is this what ur referring to?

sorry for the trouble

XSG is United Arab Emirates. Strange, as there is no firmware for the UAE code XSG.

Try typing in OJP. If it accepts it, reboot, then connect to Kies and see if it recognises your phone. If not, I would flash the OJP firmware that I linked you to. Failing that, take it back to where you bought it or to a Samsung Service Point.

does this require using Odin to flash the linked firmware?

First thing you have to do is, go to dialer pad and type *#9090#* if nothing happens try *#*#9090#*#* than choose in service mode [1] LOG VIA USB. After you'v done that go back to dialer and type *#7284#* or *#*#7284#*#* this is Phone Utility menu where you have to change both UART and USB to PDA mode. After you'v compleated steps above connect to your PC via USB cable, run KIES and update your phone :)

Dear ironass
thanks again for your help;
i used odin and flashed my mobile with the egy frimware
am still a beginner in this field so here's the results:
1. i was surprised that the O.S upgraded to ICS in the same operation.
2. device parameter are:
PDA: I9100GJPLP6
PHONE: I9100GXXLPR
CSC: I9100GOJPLP5

Still the same issue failed to connect to server for updates.
your comments are appreciated and welcomed.

That's because you flashed the ICS, Android 4.0.3, firmware. This is the way I update my phone and get the latest firmware because I have changed my CSC code and am rooted and so therefore I cannot update via Kies.

Still the same issue failed to connect to server for updates.

See last reply. You have changed your CSC code by flashing the Egyptian firmware. You will need to update via Odin in future.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Armanish! :)

The latest update for CSC code, OJP, Iran is indeed 2.3.5. If you would like ICS you will have to another OJP code, say, Iraq, using Odin as described in post #1. This will of course void your warranty.

Iraq stock, unbranded, Samsung firmware, ICS, Android 4.0.3...

Thank you. Then will anything else happen to my phone,Will it work on my network with current sim?

I cannot see why not as they are both OJP firmwares. Just to be on the safe side, I would make a note of your current APN settings in case you are on an unusual network and have to re-enter them manually after updating but most major networks APN's are installed with updates.

Hi ironass,

Thank you for creating a very useful, active thread and appreciate your responses to the members. I am totally new to Andriod Phones. I have two S2 I9000 used by my children, bought in Switzerland in last Sept 11 at the same time, same shop, same carrier, locked version (mBudget Mobile)

For one S2, I got the OTA update to 4.0.3 in April and the other S2, didn't receive any update. At that time I was not aware of Kies, so my son has updated the other S2 to 4.0.3 by flashing it with Odin with some firmware version which he didn't remember, without knowing the consequences.

Now for the first S2, by connecting to Kies, it automatically updated to 4.0.4. For the other S2, it didn't update to 4.0.4, saying ""Your device does not support software upgrading via kies.". I tried Kies on another laptop, but it neither updates nor says the same message.

The phone details (which was not updated by Kies to 4.0.4)are as below by dialing *#1234#
PDA: I9100XWLP8
PHONE: I9100XXLPS
CSC: I9100OPSLP4
Build Info: Fri Apr 16 18.49.07 KST 2012

Current Firmware Version as per Kies: PDA:LP8/PHONE:LPS/CSC:LP4 (AUT)

The phone details (which was updated by Kies to 4.0.4)are as below by dialing *#1234#
PDA: I9100XWLPW
PHONE: I9100XXLQ6
CSC: I9100XXLPU
Build Info: Wed Aug 22 22.34.22 KST 2012

Current Firmware Version as per Kies: PDA:LPW/PHONE:LQS/CSC:LPU (AUT)

If understand correctly CSC: OPS means Australia and as per Sammobile, update to 4.0.4 is available via Kies for Australia, but Kies is not installing the same while connecting.

I just checked the phone with Root Checker and it is saying not rooted. Even Titanium backup also saying the same and not taking any backup.

As I can in Sammobile, 4.0.4 is available for both Switzerland and Australia but Kies is not updating.

Please advice how to proceed with 4.0.4 update. Via Odin by downloading 4.0.4 meant for Switzerland? If yes, then do I need to root before or can I install without rooting. I want to do this because I am awaiting for Jelly Bean before that I like to clear up the mess.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

I have two S2 I9000 (I9100?) used by my children, bought in Switzerland in last Sept 11 at the same time, same shop, same carrier, locked version (mBudget Mobile)

Without knowing their original CSC codes, I'm guessing that one of them had been flashed prior to sale, see post #1. This means that it would not update either OTA or via Kies.

Now for the first S2, by connecting to Kies, it automatically updated to 4.0.4. For the other S2, it didn't update to 4.0.4, saying ""Your device does not support software upgrading via kies.". I tried Kies on another laptop, but it neither updates nor says the same message.

This is to be expected, as per post #1.

The phone details (which was not updated by Kies to 4.0.4)are as below by dialing *#1234#

Your son has flashed the Australian firmware to the phone! This will have to be updated using Odin.

The phone details (which was updated by Kies to 4.0.4)are as below by dialing *#1234#
PDA: I9100XWLPW
PHONE: I9100XXLQ6

Current Firmware Version as per Kies: PDA:LPW/PHONE:LQS/CSC:LPU (AUT)

This is using the, "Open Europe", firmware, OXX, for Switzerland on Android 4.0.4.

If understand correctly CSC: OPS means Australia and as per Sammobile, update to 4.0.4 is available via Kies for Australia, but Kies is not installing the same while connecting.

A phone that has been flashed with something other than its original CSC code will not update via Kies or OTA.

I just checked the phone with Root Checker and it is saying not rooted. Even Titanium backup also saying the same and not taking any backup.

As I can in Sammobile, 4.0.4 is available for both Switzerland and Australia but Kies is not updating.

As per post #1, and above, it is not just rooting that can prevent the update.

Please advice how to proceed with 4.0.4 update. Via Odin by downloading 4.0.4 meant for Switzerland? If yes, then do I need to root before or can I install without rooting. I want to do this because I am awaiting for Jelly Bean before that I like to clear up the mess.

Unless you can flash, via Odin, the exact firmware that was originally. out-of-the-box, on the phone, which was probably changed before you received it, you will have to use Odin for all future updates. You do not, as you already know from your son's previous flash, need to be rooted to flash a new firmware.

I would suggest that you download and install the following firmware:-

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: I9100XWLPW_I9100OXXLPU_AUT.zip

This is the OXXLPU, Swiss, Android 4.0.4, firmware that your other phone is running. Flashing this firmware will not mean that you will be able to update via Kies or OTA though. All future updates will need to be done via Odin.

Hi ironass,

Thank you very much for your welcome. detailed reply and correcting my typo. Just few queries:

1. How to find out the original CSC code and original firmware out of the box? Is there any way out?

2. I will update the firmware with the link provided by you via Odin. Can I use Odin 1.85 as I have this on laptop, which I have used to flash my Tab 8.9 recently?

3. It is difficult to know that the retailer flashed the firmware prior to sale, as S2 came in a sealed original box, I personally opened it.

Hi ironass,

Thank you very much for your welcome. detailed reply and correcting my typo. Just few queries:

1. How to find out the original CSC code and original firmware out of the box? Is there any way out?

You could try going to your dial pad and typing in the following code...

*#272*[Device IMEI code with no brackets]#

This may, or may not, display your CSC code. However, if the original CSC code was for, say, Mexico then you would have to flash that firmware to your phone to receive Mexican updates in future via Kies.

2. I will update the firmware with the link provided by you via Odin. Can I use Odin 1.85 as I have this on laptop, which I have used to flash my Tab 8.9 recently?

I would recommend using the latest version of Odin, as per post #1.

3. It is difficult to know that the retailer flashed the firmware prior to sale, as S2 came in a sealed original box, I personally opened it.

It could have been flashed anywhere in the retail chain for perfectly legitimate reasons. As your son has flashed the Australian firmware the warranty is void anyway.

EDIT

and correcting my typo.

That was just checking that it was really the GT-i9100 version and not the GT-i9000, Galaxy S, that we were talking about. It has happened in the past! ;)

Hi ironass,

Thanks for your reply & support. I have just flashed 4.0.4 via Odin. Every thing went through without any hicupps. After upgrading Kies have automatically started and confirmed the update. Now both S2s are having the same Firmware as per Kies and PDA/Phone/CSC/Build Numbers are same.

Thanks once again.
