Root ICS Developement: End User Discussion

After seeing ICS on another Triumph I am anxiously awaiting the fix for the camera, that is the only thing I see that I would absolutely require to be added before I root my phone :D

and this will also be my first root, thats how impressed with this version i am. I can't thank all of you guys that are working on it enough.

I cannot wait to root this thing and experience ICS

me too, once the camera gets fixed, im going to install ics immidiately

Question:

Does anyone actually use the MusicFX app in cm9 atm?

If not, I'm going to just dump it since it also has DSP Manager that does the same thing. Let me know.

I have noticed that most if not all the Ics roms for the optimus v have working cams... I was just wondering if it was possible to resign the drivers and port them for triumph...might be a dumb question but I figured it was worth asking

Not a dumb question, I didn't know development was so complicated either! When I asked g60madman about HDMI in his ROM, he said that you can't just port drivers. My guess is that drivers run at the OS/kernel level, and you cannot backport any of them. Can you use Vista drivers on XP? No. Can you use XP drivers on 7? No. If HDMI cannot be ported, neither can the camera. Although I asked about porting from Froyo to Gingerbread on the same phone, I'm pretty sure that if fixes could be backported, every phone would now have CM9, and CM9 would have already hit stable. Every time a phone driver/integrated app needs a fix, it involves unique core changes and tweaks in android_frameworks_base and the Android system itself. Not a dumb question, if I hadn't asked, I would have never known either!

Is it OK to update SU on the latest CM9 alpha? I flashed the ROM on Tuesday and the Play Store has indicated there is a newer version available. Reading some of the comments there is the stuff of nightmares....bricking, losing root, etc.

Thanks for any advice.
