Just so that everyone knows how Android works and whats new with ICS:
Android - Introducing Ice Cream Sandwich
Keep in mind that some features are different on many phones. Otherwise they would all be the same. The company, (In this case being samsung) makes changes and enhancements to there phones to make them different from the competition. Some additional features are removed, to keep the phone fast, others are added onto the android version to give it more unique features then the other phone makers. Android is open source, giving users choice. If you want a pure google android version unmodified, pure google, get the
galaxy nexus.
Here is what we have of ics features that were included:
1.)
Refined, evolved UI
2.)
Resizable widgets
3.)
Quick responses for incoming calls (notice how we had this in GB, added feature at the time.)
4.)
Swipe to dismiss notifications, tasks, and browser tabs
5.)
Improved text input and spell-checking
6.)
Powerful voice input engine
7.)
Control over network data
8.)
Designed for accessibility
9.)
People and profiles,
Unified calendar, visual voicemail (already had visual voicemail through ATT app.)
Rich and versatile camera capabilities
Redesigned Gallery app with photo editor -(already had this in gb. Seeing the trend?)
Live Effects for transforming video
The powerful web browsing and everything else below it we have. We have face unlock and everything else. We have the app disable. Go to settings-applications-all. Choose the app you want to disable. Note that not all apps can be disabled, and if your phones starts behaving odd, re-enable the app. I suggest disabling one app at a time and use your phone like you normally would. If you don't have any problems go ahead and continue disabling other apps.
The reason we do not have the drag and drop apps, is because it is samsung's launcher. Not androids. So its there app, not androids. This is why the layout and everything is different. Everything I have listed I have as features. We do not have the lock screen actions as samsung customized it a bit.
In a sense, every version of android other then Galaxy devices is kinda like a "lite" version. Features are different for a reason. Another thing is some phones cannot handle certain features. Such as a phone getting ics but lacks the face unlock feature as the phone does not have a front facing camera, etc. Hope this helps clear things up.
