Root ICS help

Ok so I have installed ROMs in the past, RCMix and the Energized version along with a couple of others and they have been so easy it takes like 45mins or less from backing up to restoring apps with TB.
But I have now tried 3 different ICS ROMs and all of them fail even though people say they use them every day other than the camera being knackered.

RD-MIUI_ICS_2.2.24_v3. This one just has a million force closes and is just impossible to use, it also keeps telling me my simcard and memory card are constantly being inserted and to restart my phone.

IceColdSandwich-4.2.AOKP-signed. Less force closes but this one had the same simcard issue and then began constantly restarting my phone which took me 20mins to stop looping and get into recovery to restore my old ROM.

Ascension-v1.0A7. This is the one I managed to get closer with, didn't notice any force closes and it seemed to happily sit there for 10mins but as soon as I tried restoring apps with TB it just hangs and will not restore anything, apps, numbers or messages. I'm starting from scratch with a new phone basically which I just can't be bothered with, all the hassle of entering all my numbers and app sign in info etc. I bought TB for a reason and usually I'm more than happy with the job it does.

Anyone know if I could possibly be doing anything wrong or is there something that the ICS ROMs require me to do that's different to the Sense 3.0 and 3.5 ones I have been switching between regularly for the last 6months? I always do a full wipe as it's just good practice even if it's just an updated ROM.

Not sure of it will do anything, but have you tried taking the sim and SD card out and putting them back in again?

Yes I have many times, but I've had the phone a year and it's the first time I've even seen the message.

It only happens on the first 2 ROMs anyway, I installed them in the order above and the 3rd didn't show the message once in the hour I had it on. Then went back to MIUI and it was back again instantly so it's just a ROM issue I suspect.

What exactly are you restoring with TB? If you stick strictly with user apps you'll be fine, but restoring anything else can lead to problems.

Well first time I did a batch of everything just like I always do which got stuck on the first app, uTorrent remote. It did cross my mind that I had some sense stuff on there perhaps and these don't have sense so might be causing the problem. I then went to the app list and tried a few of them one by one, 'your Orange' 'Amazon' and a couple of others. Just sat there for 10-15mins doing nothing.

Any apps that have a red smiley face next to them in TB are system apps, which shouldn't be restored on other ROMs (i.e don't restore apps that are meant for a sense ROM and an AOSP ROM.) and I don't think that some apps that came with the phone originally (e.g Your Orange) will work on an AOSP ROM. Although uTorrent should work fine, so i'm not sure why it won't restore that

Well that might be why it's been so straight forward before because all my ROMs have been sense ones in the past. I had considered it which is why I just tried some of the basic ones I got from the market that should work as you say. Even tried the messages and contacts backups to try get those on, if I could get those it'd be a good start and perhaps I would just have to settle for putting the rest on by downloading them again from market. Might have another go tonight with the Ascension one as that seemed the one I was closest to getting working.

I have seen Blackout has a Sense 3.6 ICS ROM out but the WIFI and other things are still not working. Is there a sense based ICS ROM out there that is good for daily use? Camera I don't mind if it's broken.

Your Orange is available as a market app. That version works fine on AOSP.

Ah ok, I just assumed that it was something that came with the phone (like I have an app from Three which was a system app and non removable) :o
