Help ICS Update question

I'm on the Virgin Mobile Network in Canada and was wondering if I used a rom for my ICS if my phone will still tell me about the official one that is coming out? My reason for this is my phone is doing odd things now like when I go to text it wont type the words and i use the stock texting no special app, and it is being laggy as hell now so any help would be great. I am currently using the XXLPH ICS firmware

In a word, no.

Roms tend to disable the stock firmware updates. It's a good idea too, because you wouldn't want to wake up and be back on GB because Virgin decided to downgrade you overnight.
