Help ICS WiFi problem

Hi.

I could do with some advice/help.

Successfully upgraded yesterday to ICS Android 4.03 using Kies.

But Wi-Fi doesn't work. After several restarts, taking battery out etc, I finally found a temporary fix: All the apps that connect to the internet will now only work when Wi-Fi Direct (peer to peer connectivity) is switched on and the ordinary Wi-Fi is switched off!

(My home Wi-Fi is the same as before; no changes there; no other machines switched on to act as peer. I haven't been out yet to see what happens with BTFon and hotspots.)

i had same problem yesterday after I upgraded, tried everything, then went to put my password in again and realized the up arrow on samsung keypad wasn't a caps lock only did one letter at a time, when i input correct it worked ok, so double check your password

Thanks for that, Banko.
I should have said that my Wifi is showing as connected - but even when showing as connected none of the internet apps are working. Only in WiFi Direct.

Did you factory reset your phone after updating to ICS?

Usually, any nagging and seemingly 'random' issues like this that happen after an update, can be fixed by doing an FR.

Nope I didn't do a FR.
I am avoiding the hassle of reinstalling all the apps; and re-syncing all the google stuff.
Do I just have to bite the bullet? (I have never had to do a Factory Reset before.)
Thanks.

I had the same right after the upgrade; after setting up and reconnecting my wifi on the note, all works again flawlessly! Try to do the same...

It's always a sensible idea after a software update. And its really easy.

Also, it will NOT delete any of your photos, music or videos. It will however delete your current SMSs, so back these up if you need them... have a feeling you can do this using Kies, however Kies itself can be extremely temperamental at times!

Just make sure ur contacts are synced to ur google account. Then screenshot your homescreens (this makes getting them back to the way they were a piece of cake). After the FR, connect to your wifi (it should work now) and your phone will begin to re-download all your apps automatically (shouldn't take too long if u leave ur phone next to your router). It will re-sync your contacts in no time also.

To perform the FR first turn your phone off. Next, Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home button (middle key), and Power button to reboot your phone into Recovery Mode.
While in Recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and Power button to select an option. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Confirm the action on the next screen.

Your phone will reboot and will act as though its fresh out the box, but you should have it back to normal within a few hours.

It will run like a dream...

Yay!

I did the Factory Reset and as you say, it now works like a dream and totally worth the time needed to re-install a few apps. I had not realised that all my photos etc would remain...

In fact I did the Reset using the command inside ICS Settings "Back up and reset" and the whole process only took 10 minutes.

Thanks for the support.
