If I root my M8, is os upgrades still readily available?

If I root my M8, but don't install custom ROM, could I then upgrade the operative system the old, normal way (just a click in the settings) or would one need to go to another site and download the os there?

My understanding is that if you root then taking an OTA (over-the-air) upgrade is likely to either fail during installation or potentially have undesirable effects.

Actually, I think if you root there's a good chance you won't even be able to download the OTA upgrades.

If you install a custom recovery then OTA updates will not work. Since the normal way of rooting most HTCs is to unlock, flash a custom recovery, then use that to root the ROM, I would guess that you do have one of these.

I did once apply an OTA to a rooted ROM and suffered nothing worse than loosing root, but it can have worse effects than that - it really depends what is in the OTA and what you have changed, so is a bit unpredictable.
