Root If I root.....

Will i be able to connect wifi devices on my 4G connection? Also will Roam Control work? I'm not interested in different roms just free wifi and Roam Control working. Had the first Evo set up like this and I liked it a lot.

Depending on the rom you flash this shouldn't be a problem. :)

We have all the same capabilities as the OG, and more!! :D

If you need help rooting, here's the guide the Epic Ocn wrote up:

Depending on how deep you want to go down the rabbit hole, you can just root with S-on, or go for full S-off. Both methods are in the guide.

If you have any trouble / questions, just let us know. Someone is always around. :)

Do I have to flash a new rom or can I root and leave it stock

You can leave it stock after rooting, but the apps needed to tether aren't already there, and there are a few complications you"can" encounter along the way. Some folks get em, some don't. Like the SuperSU app not updating the binaries properly. This causes some headaches.

Flashing a new rom, even if it's the same stock rooted rom, will have everything needed to do what you want to do, right out of the box. I feel it's the easiest way to get there. :)

for me if you are going to root and flash a rom, i would suggest that you try some roms that are out there. if you want to stay with sense then i would suggest viper or meanbean. they are waaaaaaaay better than stock. and they have everything that you will need.

once you get rooted we can talk you thru the process. it is super easy to do, and you will be glad that you did it;)

I am still kicking this idea around about rooting my Evo LTE. I had an Evo 4g that I rooted and used it for over a year. I never changed the rom on it. My main purpose of rooting then was free wi fi tether and being able to use Roam Control. Those are my main concerns now also. I never had WiMAX 4 g service in my area when i had my other Evo but now I do have lte and it is nice. I want to be able to use this connection for tethering with a cable and wifi as I am considering terminating my current landline internet connection. If I root I absolutely don't want to lose my lte. Also has anyone had luck using Rom Control?

well i will always root my phone no matter what......just saying.....LOL

yes you will not lose 4g, i think most if not all custom roms have 4g unlike the og evo days. i am on pacman which is an aosp rom and i get 4g all the time. and yes most roms will have the tethering feature......i will always say do it......but in the end it is your decision to do it or not.

as far as roam control......i never had to use it so i can't comment on that.

I'm like you, I rolled with a stock rooted rom on my og Evo as well.

This is a far more comprehensive phone and the software is naturally a big part of that.

What you really want is to go with either Viper4G or MeanBean, disclaimer, I'm more than partial to Viper4G. Everything works. Both are Sense based roms with useful extensions.

You'll not only get the features you want, you'll pick up some you want and don't know yet, such as the opportunity to extend your hard buttons and get back to a better experience. Example, you just lost your search button - I now have that mapped to a long home press.

I have roam access as a shortcut app, not sure I recall roam control, sorry.

If you're asking for a Verizon PRL for forced roaming, we don't have that with the LTE, as far as I know.

If not, the Roam Control app should work. I don't use it either, so I'm not 100% on that one.

If you need a nudge.... NUDGE!!! :p:D

We're always around to help. :)
