if verizon gets iphone, will you leave droid?

Its been rumored for a while now that apple is going to allow other carriers to have the iphone in 2010, and now evwn professionals are saying so, and there is some proof. Verizon is thebest company to providen the iphone, so it'd be best for both companies if verizon got it.

So I'm wondering whoo all here will leave the droid if verizon gets an iphone?

I would. As much as I love the openess of the android os, the iphone is just nore polished and solid. I miss my ipod touch so much, and would love to have the phone.

I would leave droid the day verizons iphone gets released.

So I hope its all true.

Anyone else with me

They're cool, but I'm digging android too much right now. That's not to say that I'd swap over in a year or so if the rumors about a forward facing camera on the next version are true though.

Nope

Edit: But if a faster Android phone with better battery and more memory I'd think really long and hard about an upgrade...

Well, not so sure it will be that soon. The Iphone for verizon would have to be a complete redesign for CDMA. Just not sure they will do it. But, I can see them doing it when verizon rolls out their 4g/lte network in late 2010 since 4G LTE will be common across many carriers in the near future.

Either way I wouldn't trade my droid. I like having the keyboard, i like the open dev environment, and I like the OS in general. The only benefit to me of an iphone to me right now is the advanced gaming apps, but these will be coming to the droid soon.

Really depends on what's out when the iPhone comes to Verizon. By then we'll have other Android phones out on VZW that will be competitors for attention as well. Believe it or not, the Droid will be yesterday's lettuce by then... ;)

The iPhone lure for me is a lot about the broad compatibility w/so much hardware out there - seems like every clock radio/stereo/TV/car/you-name-it has an iPhone dock/connectivity built in. That's useful.

I'm not a "zillions of apps" guy, so the 100,000 apps vs. 10,000 apps issue doesn't really matter to me. There are so many more apps than I need/want on Android even now in it's broad consumer infancy, that I'm not worried about that.

One part about the iphone that's off-putting - if I have to jailbreak to make any significant changes to the iPhone, the openness of Android environment will go a long way to holding my loyalty. The "my way or the highway" approach of apple is a bit maddening...

They are glitzy and cool but Droid is so much better and more capable. My wife has Iphone and my Droid is light years ahead in every way other than user interface which is more polished on Iphone.

DROID ALL THE WAY

Not for at least 2 years when my contract expires, and by then I'm sure there will be plenty of new smartphones to rival both the Droid A855 and the current iPhone. I'd also require the iPhone to have a physical keyboard, which everything I've heard from Apple is that they won't.

I find it hard to believe that the iPhone is coming to VZW after all of the ads where VZW just hammered and made fun of the iPhone like there was no tomorrow... I can't imagine them telling the world that the iPhone is a piece of junk and then turning around and offering that device soon thereafter.

Absolutely Not! However, now that we are on the subject, can I interest you in an iPhone 3Gs 32GB that was replaced by my Droid? You can beat the internet rush cause I am putting the phone on ebay this weekend! ;)
No, Seriously!

Nope.

It's not that I don't like the iPhone, cuz I do. I just don't see it as an upgrade. Not necessarily a downgrade, but not an upgrade. They both, pretty much, do the same things. One may do certain things a bit better than the other, but the differences just aren't that significant to me.

I plan on having my Droid for the full 2 years. To be honest, if in 2011, an iPhone was available and a comparable Android device was also available, I'd take the Android device. Cuz, that's what I'm used to.

And this is coming from a guy who, up until the Droid, was just praying the iPhone came to VZW....now I'm indifferent.

I paid money to get out from under an iPhone contract. So, no I wouldn't go back to an iPhone. It occurred to me that I prefer a phone I can actually do things with. Not some over-engineered bundle of glossy effects with a bunch of apps in useless segmented bubbles.

Verizon took a HUGE step and went with Android "as is", none of days of old Verizon meddling. I wonder if they did ever get the iPhone how all of that would work? The 'new' Verizon, being all open pairing up with the 'old' Apple, being all closed?? Would Apple have to make some concessions in order to be on the Verizon network or would Verizon be happy to not care about it and make a killing?

hell no, an iphone is like a droid with training wheels.

and it's really time to get rid of the whole iWhatever naming convention. it is played out. it's so 2003.

I am researching the Droid because my Verizon contract is up in January. I am presently a Blackberry buff. The Droid's os is certainly attractive, however, I love my Outlook and will not sacrifice it to use gmail. That is ridiculous. Yeah, yeah, I can buy an aftermarket program for $30.00 that will let it work, but why?

I guess in 2011 it would depend where the iPhone and Android are at. With the rate that Android is developing and the fact that one can actually customize it, use widgets, make it their own, I'm not sure if Apple is going to stand a chance if they keep their all iPhones must be exactly alike attitude. You can what, change the wallpaper on a iPhone? Woopee! The 4x5 icon screens of the iPhone are umm, plain, ordinary, non-eventful.

When I heard the iPhone was going to have forward facing camera for possible video on calls, I laughed until nearly falling over. AT&T can't handle what they have now. Could you imagine adding video to the phone calls? It would put them out of business!!

They are already doing early testing on it, from a write-up I saw.

They'd take the iPhone in a New York minute, make no mistake. Business is about $$, and VZW will turn on a dime and tell you about all the things that the iPhone DOES on their network.

Nope. Don't like it. My friends have one and its just...so drab compared to my droid. I'm not giving up my old school emulators.

I couldn't imagine leaving the droid for a device with such limitations. I also can't tell you how many people I see with cracked iPhones. When I see someone with an iPhone I actually feel sorry for them.

Oh wow you saw a write up? Oh well then it must be true!
