Root If You are An Idiot and Can't Root Your Phone

Thanks for the great info guys. The Like new in box DX is rooted and surfing the web. Let the Roms begin.

One note about this method, on my Win XP machine, I kept getting this damn prompt wanting me to install ADB Drivers. Finally I got the computer to recognize the X, when I toggled the Windows media sync, then the root process completed.

I'm not complaining a bit though!!!!! Im rooted.

Thanks again.

Just finished up rooting with this method, worked well. For my phone, I had to set usb to Mass Storage, and didn't have to have WMP open. Anyway, works great. I will now spend the rest of my day exploring and searching out ROMS and apps. Thanks again for the post.

I frankly don't have a clue. I'm a MAC guy and used a borrowed PC to do this. Knowing what I do about windows, I would delete the offender, reinstall and try again. I'm not a computer guy, maybe someone will come along and offer something else. Sorry.

Woot! Got it. The culprit appears to have been Kaspersky. Had to delete and re-download RootMyX2.zip and then disable Kaspersky when extracting and running RootMyX2 App.

Had to hit the "Root it" button twice. The first time a message showed up in the system tray indicating a file of some type had been successfully installed. It did not take five minutes when it finally took off.

One suggestion to others would be to tether with each usb mode before running RootMyX2. Not sure how critical this is, but based on what others have said it might be.

To do this, you have to allow the tether for each mode via that pull down menu on the droidx. (Apologies to all you who know this but I'm a noob offering advice to noobs). Cycle through each one (PC, Media, USB, and Charge). You should see the Motorola files installing for each mode. Each mode took between 30 seconds to about one minute to install. Basically what's happening here is the Motorola file is doing it's part and I suspect it needs to finish in all the modes.

After this, try running the program as suggested. If it's stuck on "searching for device", close the RootMyX2 and switch the tether option (e.g., PC to Media). Then run the application again.

I spent about six hours on this and it's finally working. Thanks Sil3ntKi113 and all others for your posts and helpful suggestions. I see myself making a donation in the near future!

That doesn't work either. Yes, I'm the admin account on my computer. I'm running XP. Didn't matter anyway, I was still able to root.

It's because you're running XP as an admin account. Everything is already running as admin.

Vista and 7 don't run anything as admin (more secure).

In XP if you weren't admin, you'd have to bring up the properties to find the checkbox to run stuff as admin.

Thanks for the info. I guess I've gotta get out of the dark ages and get a newer computer!
