I like Android and all, but the excuses on the games issue aren't cutting it. Android sucks in the game department and just because the Xbox or PS3 is better doesn't cut it. I'm sure those saying that wouldn't be saying if Android had games to the caliber of the iPhone app store.

I'm holding out for some good stuff on Android, but if nothing happens, I'll be buying an iPod touch for my gaming needs.

Yes. But its pretty well known that if you go into a PC game with a gamepad, your going to get dominated. Gamepads are just too slow and inaccurate for mouse and keyboard combos in FPS games. Although they are better for driving games, since driving with a keyboard is just a pain when you need precise steering.

That's subjective. I practically grew up with a gamepad in my hand, and my no/lite scope on games like halo was/is legendary, when I'm in "the zone".

The Grand Theft Auto game for iPhone is probably the most amazing game I've ever played or seen played on a phone, ever. I loved that game. It had some serious user engagement and not the typical phone game that just gets used whenever your bored, and it was LONG. I played that game for hours and hours and never even finished it.

That's just one...there were quite a few like that. But alas, I'm going to get to try Android soon, so I look forward to exploring my options!

i totally agree. i see no point in playing piddly arsed games on a cell phone. i'd rather fire up my 360 on my 50" plasma any day.

Wow, the 360 on a big screen is better than a phone game? CALL RIPLEY'S! Seriously, I'd rather do the same thing (well, PS3 on my 42" LCD, but whatever, same concept), but I find taking all that stuff to the DMV or the bathroom to be cumbersome, so that's where phone gaming comes in handy. I don't understand some of these arguments, like people are saying you can only play one OR the other. They both have thier place, and I really hope the Android game market builds up by the time my iPhone contract ends so I can stuff the memory of my future Android phone with just as many games and I have in my iPhone.

beside , gaming on Android isn't that bad at all ! we have ExZeus/Guitar Hero/Asphalt/Hero Of Sparta/Nova .. we sure miss AngryBirds and all EA Games (e.g. my all-time favorite RockBand) .. but it's on the way .. we just got MicDroid (e.g I Am T-Pain)

I think eventually android will have more, better games
1) game devs don't want to be told what tools to use or worry that Apple can pull the plug on app store approval after investing so much time and money
2) better hardware: android allows larger screens, physical controls, nvidia gpu may change everything
3) limitations of any market scheme:
-with sideloading, a company like EA won't have to pay a share to either Apple or Google and keep all profits to themselves.
-they don't want users to browse through thousands of crappy games or the competition's in order to find their game.
-avoids the race to the bottom phenomenon where everything is under a dollar

Android now has something like 10,000 (emulated) titles. nes, genesis, snes ,n64 , gamegear, gb/gbc, psx (beta), amiga (beta), c64, spectrum.

Most of these emulators have physical keyboard (bluetooth controller) support. Besides the wii candybar, there are other options...

Many of the new phones also have svideo output for piping your emulated titles to the TV.

The new iPhone is nice and all but droid does what nintend...er..iphones dont.

that being said, even if the iphone has more games on the app store, which it does, it's kind of pointless because 3D gaming on a phone SUCKS. BALLS.

there are plenty of word and puzzle games, etc. you can play while sitting in a waiting room, wait until you get home to play call of duty where you can actually do the game justice.

Your logic is a bit flawed. PSP, DS and such are designed for young kids. These phones aren't meant to replace gaming systems or for kids to be able to text in class and play halo at the same time. They are for making young adult and adult lives easier and more organized.

If you solely want a phone to replace a gaming system, you are probably to young to be using a smart phone in the first place.

That being said, you can still use the emulator if you really want to use it to game - this blows any iPhone game out of the water.

I've played some of the FPS type games on Android and they suck, not because they're on Android but because without dedicated gaming controls any game like that sucks. At one point I really wanted to upgrade my Hero so I could play all these new 3D games, until I played them on a friends phone. The only reason to have those types of games on a phone is to show off to other people, because they are horrible to play.

On the other hand there are a great deal of games for iPhone/iPad/Android that are perfect for a touchscreen interface, and those are the only games that I even attempt to play anymore. Now if a PSP phone comes out (Android or not) I will be seriously considering it, as long as it has hardware buttons and at least one analog stick.

Spend $30-$50 on a wiimote/bgp100/datel classic? Then you've got physical controls and the emulators should work great if your phone has enough CPU juice.

If you're married to touchscreen-only games then by all means grab an iPhone, just don't expect any mainstream emulator support.

The PSP-phone will be interesting. It's basically a Samsung Captivate with gaming controls instead of a keyboard. Hopefully they can shake the N-gage curse and actually become a viable phone. No analog stick though, it's going to be touch-pad + d-pad only.

android has a lot of good games. to name a few: nova, sandstorm, asphalt 5, raging thunder, caligo chaser, zenonia, etc.

however its not the lack of games that concern me, its the heat build up. my device gets hot when playing for over 10 minutes. like over 115F

I do have snesoid on my evo and love it, but there are still a lot of games I would like to have. PvZ for one lol, and good luck to all these people trying to play their 360s and ps3s while their waiting for their next class or doc app to begin. I think they're missing the point of a mobile time killer game

If your phone has navigation, can identify items using just pictures of them (Google Goggles), and can wirelessly tether your computer with your data connection, then why can't it be a "toy?" You're doing all these other "frivolous" things with it, so why should gaming be an exception?

I think the reasoning behind the slow adoption by publishers is that it was only recently that Android really got big and overtook iOS. It will take some time for publishers to react and put games out for the Android OS. I do agree that iOS has the better games. Few things can compete with the likes of Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies. I know I spend a lot of time playing them, wishing my Android devices could do the same.

It may take some more time, but Android is now getting the same, if not more attention as iOS as websites are now making Android versions of apps and such. One such example is explosm with their Cyanide and Happiness app which is getting an Android iteration.

Again, time. Just give it some. Mobile games are in a different niche than console games. When I want pickup-and-play, I usually think of my phone rather than my console. Once more people feel that way and developers/publishers see this, we'll get them too.

I wonder if PvZ and Angry Birds are exclusive to iOS, though.
