Check out "Flip Case Control" app.
I tested it during the week (EDIT 24hour) trial. It uses 1% while inactive (i can live with that especialy since it could save you battery)
Using Cpu Spy i checked that it does let your phone go into deep sleep as usual.
In description it says use a piece of white tape adjacent to light and proximity sensor but trust me, i use the samsung black leather flip case with black felt inside and it works fine.
Try it man its just slick.
Oops forgot to say it turns screen on/off when case is open/closed lol
