iFixit teardown...help me identify this part

Can anyone tell me what this small circular "port" is in the attached picture? Just below the SIM slot.

Very likely an external antenna connector. Many phones have them.

edit: jeez, these two posts are ridiculously similar.

side note.

I Fix it did verify that the battery has the NFC antenna built into it. so if you buy an extra battery you need to make sure it is compatible.

Hmm, so that's why it says "Near Field Communication" on the upper left corner of the Samsung battery in the pic? ;)

yes but i asked if that actually meant if the battery had anything to do with NFC about two months ago when we first got images of the battery. No one thought it did. Now we know that it actually does.
 
I was just curious what it was. Since it looked like a smaller coax connection, I thought it was something like that, but I had never seen one on a smartphone.

I guess I should pay closer attention to the tear-downs.
