Well, if you are not 100% certain why not wait a week or two. In only one more week the Nexus may even be available.
I really liked the Rezound in the store, especially how it feels in my hand (a small hand for a guy) and the screen quality, but after listening to the reviews it just seems that there are too many spotty issues or real world deficiencies for a phone at that price point and technology level.
The Beats is the big selling point and it doesn't mean that much to me since this is not why I have a phone, yet even with Beats there are use and compatibility issues. The ear buds themselves don't seem to matter to many people since so many want to sell them to offset the phone price which is another indication that they may think the phone is not worth the price. So far this phone comes out to be mediocre and spotty in almost every area when you listen to the the reviews in the cold light of dawn. Why? The technical specs are fantastic so I don't get it. Perhaps HTC and VZR ruined it with Sense and Bloatware which is a good possibility.
Even the price is spotty: VZR for $300 or $249, Amazon for $229, Walmart for $209 etc. I went to three VZR stores and our local Best Buy for price shopping and they have not sold one phone yet this week. This is Seattle and we have a few tech types here but it appears that everyone else is waiting for the Nexus. But candidly that phone has been so over-hyped that it may have a hard time meeting expectations even if it is an excellent phone. The way the Rezound was released was almost like VZR and HTC themselves did not care about it so I don't hold much hope for an early upgrade to ICS.
In about two weeks you should have the ability to touch all three Android phones now available and make your choice. You still may get the Rezound but at least you should feel like it really is the best for your needs.
The way I see it is that I'm stuck with my next phone for two years so what is another week or two to get the complete view of competing phones. For me myself I'm down to buying either the Rezound or the Nexus. Based upon all the reviews I am leaning toward the Nexus now even though I really wanted to like the Rezound. Time will tell and by this time next month I will have a phone I really like with hopefully no buyers remorse.
Hope this helps and Good luck!
I actually think the real selling point isn't Beats but rather the screen. While I like Beats and the headphones, it isn't the reason I bought the phone. Also, most of the reviews I've read have been largely positive. However they end the same way, which is to wait until the GNex to come out before deciding what to get. I think that would be the case with any superphone launching shortly before the GNex. The biggest complaint is battery life, which we all knew would likely be the case going in.
I've had the phone for three days and apart from the battery life, I don't find it to be mediocre or spotty at all. I think it's got the best screen currently available on any phone. It also has the same amount of ram and internal memory as both the razr and GNex. Certainly fast enough for my tastes. The 4G signal is also plenty strong in my area (NYC). The camera is great compared to the Moto phones I've had in the past.
I agree that the phone isn't selling well, but in my view that is not a measure of the product's quality. This phone may have some issues. All phones do. I've owned mediocre products. I know what they feel like, look like and perform like. In my opinion, the rezound is in no way a mediocre phone.
As a side note, when the manager at the verizon store was processing my order, I asked if he knew when the GNex was coming out. He didn't. But it was what he said afterwards that surprised me. He said that the phone is really big. He called it a slab. I should have asked if he actually saw it, but just from the way he said it, he seemed unimpressed. And I doubt he was lying just to get my sale since he already knew before hand that I would still look at the GNex when it launched.
Also, price differences are normal with every phone launch. Amazon had the $300 razr for $111.11 on launch day. That's nearly $200 off. These retailers have to compete somehow.
Edit: I just saw the promotional vids for the GNex that just got posted on Droid-Life:

The verizon manager wasn't kidding. Holy Moly it's a big phone. It's especially apparent in the vids showing how the beaming works, the camera one, and full-length commercial (last vid). No way could I ever use the GNex with one hand. That is a huge dealbreaker for me. Heck, I have to shuffle my hand up slightly just to reach the notification bar on the rezound as it is.
