I'm about 80% sure...

I'm about 80% sure I'm in for buying this phone. Just need to up and do it already!

Tried to ask VZW to price match to Amazon yesteryday...no go. Probably going to order from them today or tomorrow. Just to confirm however; a device I buy from them will have to be self-activated correct? I assume it will have instructions enclosed how to do that (I'm pretty familiar with my current phone, a rooted DINC so don't anticipate any issues or anything).

Anyone think there will be any Black Friday sales or anything on this device?

You can still call vzw and have them walk you through it, hell you can even still take it to the store. They get there money per month no matter where you buy phone from.

And there most likely will be deals on this phone for black friday, i personally couldn't wait that long though

I couldn't wait either. I think there will likely be black friday deals on the rezound as well. When I got mine, the manager that assisted me told me that the phones's launch was very soft compared to the razr's and other big launches in the past. This tells me that verizon may have an incentive to move stock. It's a shame more people aren't buying this phone (yet) but the flipside is that you'll probably be able to pick one up at a good price soon.

Well, if you are not 100% certain why not wait a week or two. In only one more week the Nexus may even be available.

I really liked the Rezound in the store, especially how it feels in my hand (a small hand for a guy) and the screen quality, but after listening to the reviews it just seems that there are too many spotty issues or real world deficiencies for a phone at that price point and technology level.

The Beats is the big selling point and it doesn't mean that much to me since this is not why I have a phone, yet even with Beats there are use and compatibility issues. The ear buds themselves don't seem to matter to many people since so many want to sell them to offset the phone price which is another indication that they may think the phone is not worth the price. So far this phone comes out to be mediocre and spotty in almost every area when you listen to the the reviews in the cold light of dawn. Why? The technical specs are fantastic so I don't get it. Perhaps HTC and VZR ruined it with Sense and Bloatware which is a good possibility.

Even the price is spotty: VZR for $300 or $249, Amazon for $229, Walmart for $209 etc. I went to three VZR stores and our local Best Buy for price shopping and they have not sold one phone yet this week. This is Seattle and we have a few tech types here but it appears that everyone else is waiting for the Nexus. But candidly that phone has been so over-hyped that it may have a hard time meeting expectations even if it is an excellent phone. The way the Rezound was released was almost like VZR and HTC themselves did not care about it so I don't hold much hope for an early upgrade to ICS.

In about two weeks you should have the ability to touch all three Android phones now available and make your choice. You still may get the Rezound but at least you should feel like it really is the best for your needs.

The way I see it is that I'm stuck with my next phone for two years so what is another week or two to get the complete view of competing phones. For me myself I'm down to buying either the Rezound or the Nexus. Based upon all the reviews I am leaning toward the Nexus now even though I really wanted to like the Rezound. Time will tell and by this time next month I will have a phone I really like with hopefully no buyers remorse.

Hope this helps and Good luck!

I actually think the real selling point isn't Beats but rather the screen. While I like Beats and the headphones, it isn't the reason I bought the phone. Also, most of the reviews I've read have been largely positive. However they end the same way, which is to wait until the GNex to come out before deciding what to get. I think that would be the case with any superphone launching shortly before the GNex. The biggest complaint is battery life, which we all knew would likely be the case going in.

I've had the phone for three days and apart from the battery life, I don't find it to be mediocre or spotty at all. I think it's got the best screen currently available on any phone. It also has the same amount of ram and internal memory as both the razr and GNex. Certainly fast enough for my tastes. The 4G signal is also plenty strong in my area (NYC). The camera is great compared to the Moto phones I've had in the past.

I agree that the phone isn't selling well, but in my view that is not a measure of the product's quality. This phone may have some issues. All phones do. I've owned mediocre products. I know what they feel like, look like and perform like. In my opinion, the rezound is in no way a mediocre phone.

As a side note, when the manager at the verizon store was processing my order, I asked if he knew when the GNex was coming out. He didn't. But it was what he said afterwards that surprised me. He said that the phone is really big. He called it a slab. I should have asked if he actually saw it, but just from the way he said it, he seemed unimpressed. And I doubt he was lying just to get my sale since he already knew before hand that I would still look at the GNex when it launched.

Also, price differences are normal with every phone launch. Amazon had the $300 razr for $111.11 on launch day. That's nearly $200 off. These retailers have to compete somehow.

Edit: I just saw the promotional vids for the GNex that just got posted on Droid-Life:

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/1...us-stars-in-official-google-video/#more-53170

The verizon manager wasn't kidding. Holy Moly it's a big phone. It's especially apparent in the vids showing how the beaming works, the camera one, and full-length commercial (last vid). No way could I ever use the GNex with one hand. That is a huge dealbreaker for me. Heck, I have to shuffle my hand up slightly just to reach the notification bar on the rezound as it is.

kishin14,

Good points! I also think that the screen is the biggest selling issue, that and the great way it fits my hand.

My comments about spotty are due to apparently diverse reports on battery life, call quality, and camera. These are all important to me especially call quality and speaker phone use since I primarily use my cell phone for business communication when not on a land line (remember land lines? - that make me at least 100 years old I think). Anyway, this could be my final phone choice as well since I have a hard time believing that the Nexus can meet the over-the-top expectations that have been attached to it, (sounds like the iphone cult) but it just might.

All these devices suffer from a problem called "laws of physics" and there are always trade-offs. The diverse reports on things like battery life and call quality seem to indicate a potential manufacturing QC issue since I would expect a tighter set of statistical responses on these reports. Look at the thread on call quality they are split almost even between great and terrible.

That is kinda strange to me on such a new phone. Same thing with battery life. I had high hopes for this phone because of the tech specs but it seems to be less capable in real life so far.

Edit: thanks for the video link, too big is a deal breaker for me as well.

Maybe I too am a victim of over-expectations and should just go out and buy the damn thing and get it over with!

Glad you are happy with your purchase!

Me too! I'll probably join you guys shortly. Actually there really is no totally wrong choice here just personal preferences and personal quirks. That is what makes the world interesting.

Hey, give us a report. Become the official tie breaker!

through three trial phones in the last few months. So far in the last 24 hours, I cannot find a single fault with this phone. I want to. I am trying. Not yet. We will see how the battery holds up today. My battery is at 50% at 3:15 pm after waking the phone at 7am. Moderate to heavy usage today. 8 hours to 50%. Same use could take me close to 11pm. Might work we will see.

Got mine three hours ago. Just finished customizing and setting it up. Seems really snappy and fast and oh my God is the screen GORGEOUS!!!

if you look hard enough you will always find something you don't like. That goes with anything. The question is if you will be able to live with it.

I have had mine since Monday and by far better than my Bionic that I still have and just about forgot about it, because I finally have a phone that hasn't had a data drop yet, no bsod, no reboots, and best phone camera yet. It also feels smaller in my hand compared to my Bionic. Don't like the battery as well but I got a new battery today so I hope battery life gets what everyone else is getting.

I'm leaning towards the Rezound because of the sd card. The Nexus does not have one and I like to keep a lot of music on my card so with the internal 16GB and a 32GB card I can carry a lot of music with me. Still that Nexus is one sexy phone. Decisions, decisions.

mine is on charge right now. I haven't activated it yet. I just had them sell me the phone in the box. I don't like them putting their hands on it before i do.

As a Navy pilot I live in my flight suit and my #1 requirement is that my phone fit in the sleeve pocket of my flight suit. My DINC is ideal for this: slips in almost unnoticed: it's there for me when I land and start calling and texting and what not.

I tried out the RAZR: it BARELY fit into my pocket. Since I know the dimensions of the GNEX (it's longer than the RAZR) that phone is out of contention. The Rezound will also fit so basically, it's down to one of these two...or wait for the HTC Zeta to come out in Feb/Mar 2012.

I agree with everyone that although the Beats audio seems to be how they are marketing this, the screen (to me) is the selling point. I played around a good bit with the camera and it's also very nice. I like the size and the feel of this phone and am starting to get comfortable with the idea that I'll probably get it. I think I'm going to take the good advice and wait until next Friday see if I can find a deal on the thing. If not, I'll probably just get it anyway. But if I can save a few $$ by buying it at Amazon I probably will go that route.

my thanks to all the considerate and helpful responses. Ya'll rock.
