I'm coming back to the Nexus - questions!

I bought the VZW GN at launch, sold it a week later because I deemed it too big. Well, I've just flat out missed ICS and I want back in. So I ordered from Amazon ($49...god, I love Amazon Wireless) and awaiting delivery this week. I was leaning towards a One X for a bit but...I just can't do Sense. It's such a waste of a gorgeous OS to overlay it with all that crap.

So, in the last few months I wanted to know if any of the following has been tweaked/changed:

1.) Speaker volume. I found it to be on the low side, a friend told me they recently updated the device and now he finds the speaker too loud? Is this the case?

2.) Google Wallet. I know VZW still doesn't officially support it but I recall seeing there was a workaround. Is this a rooted thing? If not, is it easy to do and is it safe to do? (There are so many "We accept Google Wallet" stores in my area it would be a sin not to have this capability.)

3.) Battery life. Hahahaha - kidding, I know it still sucks and I'll need to buy the extended battery. THe question is, is there a difference between buying it directly from VZW or the Samsung version available at Amazon? Are they one and the same?

Thanks, guys. :)

1. For the volume you can use an app called volume+ from the Google play market. If you go to the developer's web site he offers the full version for free. That fixed my volume issue before I rooted.

2. Google wallet I installed from my browser with the work around on my stock phone before I rooted. It works great. You can also look up the Google wallet apk in your browser and it works fine. All without root on Verizon.

3. The extended battery works great. When you buy it just make sure it is NFC compatible. I got mine at Verizon for $25.00.

1. There has been no update for the Verizon Nexus and several people have said volume+ stopped working.

2. I believe the workaround stopped working since the market became the play store, but you can find the apk.

3. I know nothing about the extended battery, I keep my phone charged.

1. Volume+ still works just fine.

2. The work around still works with the play store.

3. Extended battery helps a little but not much.

1. There are several threads stating volume + stopped working after the update.

2. I just tried installing HBO go using the same workaround I used in the market. It doesn't work with the play store.

Volume+ has some annoying bugs for GN, including changing your ringtone profiles when you are unaware. Several times, the app changed my ringtone to silent even though I did not ask it to. I missed several important calls, emails and texts due to this. On these forums, I have read where several other people experienced the same.

For what it's worth, I've never had a volume problem on my GNex. I'm not saying that no one does, I'm just saying that not everyone does, so you may find that it's irrelevant - you may get a perfectly loud one.

I think mine probably has low volume by objective standards, but I don't want a loud phone.

If you're on the latest AOKP, you're running 4.0.4. That's when my sound problems cleared up. Which really was the only bug I experienced.

I am! But even before the update, I didn't have any sound problems, even on stock, and I got the phone for Christmas, so it still seems to be hit-or-miss...
