I'm in love with my phone again!

I backed up with Titanium Backup.
Now the sync icon will not disappear from the tray.
That is irrelevant and minor.

I could not get ROM Manager to reboot to the screen that gave the option for 'install zip from sdcard'

It would only go the screen that said 'reinstall packages' and 3 other options.
This happened in manual mode and reboot from ROM Manager.

How do I get the 'install zip' option ?
Should I have just used the 'install from zip' option within ROM Manager ?

Before I thought of trying that...

I deleted my update.zip file. Stupidly.
I downloaded one from a fourm post, so I can get thru the recovery reboot again, but my OCLF program is not running properly.
This seems to have affected all apps that need Superuser access. Including ROM Manager, so I cannot try using the option within ROM Manager.
It's as if I an unrooted, but not able to reroot with OCLF. Apps give a superuser error and force close. OCLF, Root Explorer, Superuser permissions, ROM Manager all shut down.

Did I royally screw up ? Will ODIN flash to stock get me that file back or get stuff working again? Is that too extreme ?

Any help appreciated.
 
Have to bandwagon along with the OP here, although I've never been particularly critical of the inherent problems with Samsung/T-Mobile support for issues like the GPS or Froyo updates. Never the less, I did flash a custom froyo rom and voodoo/TW lagfix, among other tinkering options. The fact that this is one of the most robust phones when it comes to ability to recover/rebuild the phone in the event of a flashing mistake is awesome, because it takes the edge off of reckless experimentation. People need to change their mindset about custom roms when it comes to phones - with this phone in particular - and start thinking of it more like a multiplayer game, where the best content is often modded and developed by the user community. If an individual is truly so afraid of this type of "frontier experience" in using community mods, then to be honest you might be better off just buying Apple and taking what the company provides for you, and ultimately getting a better pre-packed product that is limited in the scope of how it can be modded.

The thing I love about this phone, all benchmarks and other comparisons aside, is that the phone is one of the best - if not THE best - performing phones for gaming and 3D graphical applications. Even newer phones out can't touch the Galaxy S for stuff like Dungeon Defenders, which it runs absolutely beautifully. I run my phone so hard I bought 4 spare batteries off ebay for about $1.50 each, so that I can just swap batteries out as I burn through them. It truly is a portable computer, limited only by the scope of energy storage technology.
 
so i have rooted and began to flash axura 2.2 and im froze with the phone with phone reading finding install packages, any ideas. im afraid to touch it. thanks in advance
 
I think you need to rename your zip file to update.zip, or you have to manually point it to the correct zip file. I did the same thing.

I've tried several different rom's that didn't fix any of the problems that i was having until someone put me on to Axura and I flashed the latest JL5 modem. My GPS now locks on to me within 10 meters and although it may not be the fastest, its still pretty accurate.

I tried Nero, macnut,and some other roms and Axura has so far been my favorite

Thanks to everyone in this thread for convincing me that rooting is not that hard and defintely worth it.
Now running Nero v5 and loving it.
Even getting an HSDPA signal now !

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're not. They just changed the icon in the status bar from 3G to H.
 
NERO V5 here too...
What a difference!

I'm pretty sure we're getting actual HSPDA speeds, but the Icon looks cool.
 
Can't vouch for what setting you're seeing. All I know is that in the description for Nero v4, they say that they replaced the 3G icon for an H, and they've carried that forward through v4.1 and v5.

Good on ya if you're getting that speed.
 
For Nero v5:

In the stock Vibrant camera, you can choose whether or not to geo-tag your photos.

In the Nero cam, it looks like that's not an option, it always tags them.
Or am I missing something ?

You can turn them off by unchecking "Use Wireless Networks" in your settings-location.

There are also a few camera apps that will let you turn it off from the camera settings.

Nope.
It still tags them using the GPS. I assume turning that off will disable it, but that's stupid. JI6 stock camera has the on/off option.

We'll have to see what the official 2.2 release has now that it's official.

So I'm assuming you've turned off the GPS as well.

It was kind of a given on my part to assume that you had.
