I'm really impressed with the battery on this phone!

Bit of context, I came from an HTC Desire which had a terrible battery life. Even after I got used to it, I still had to be a bit careful.

Getting a SGS2 I was a bit worried as I had heard all the horror stories. But really, this battery seems to last forever, even under quite heavy use.

For example, today I went to work with a full charge. At work I sent countless txt messages, made a number of phonecalls and generally just played around on apps etc on way to / back from work.

I'm sitting here with 83% battery. The Desire would have been on about 30% by now.

I use live wallpapers and pretty much leave wifi on. 3g was turned off today as I have run out of 3g allowance. However, even when I have done heavy browsing, the battery has still been really good.

Anyone else feel that the battery life is excellent? Or do I have some freakish phone?
 
Cannot comment for everyone else but i struggle to get 5 hours of constant use out of mine. Got no replies in my other topic so i'm not sure what i should do about the situation.

What firmware and such are you on?

I get the impression it is quite old, and Kies does ask me to update. But everything works so well I don't think I will - if it ain't broke why fix it.

Most battery issues I have experienced are caused by rouge apps. Also, on my desire when I first got it, I used an app killer that actually drained my battery. What was happening was that it was closing apps that simply opened again. this repeated over and over.

But that said... by 5 hours of constant use. If you mean, for example, 5 hours of constant surfing on 3g... that could drain your battery and, I would imagine, is quite exceptional use. I don't know how my phone would do under these conditions. For more normal use... it does very well.
 
I had pretty bad battery life with 2.3.3 - now that I am on the 'latest' 2.3.5 my battery life is pretty much on par with what my iPhone 4 was.
 
I've unfortunately noticed the battery drain since day 1 when i didn't have anything else installed (trying out internet browser, using trial games that i have since removed, looking through market, etc). In a way i wish it was a rogue application, at least then it would be a clean-cut thing to solve. I've put it down to being on 2.3.3 as i've read that it has problems with battery life and generated heat (another issue i have) but i cannot get an update through Kies as it says my current version if the latest. Bit confused by it all!

Just do what I did. Root your phone and install a leaked official Samsung 2.3.5 Version. Look for XXK13

Just search on rooting guides for Galaxy S II with 2.3.3 firmware.

Yeah, that was my first day with the phone. Now, a week later, the battery goes from 100% to 60% charge overnight without even touching the phone. Oh well...
And I'm not sure that upgrading to 2.3.5 helps, it was quite the opposite in my case.
 
I know, I paid $549 U.S. Dollars just to have one sent to me. I want to make sure I get every bit of that money out of it. :)

But, I can say, I gave up my iPhone 4 for this and haven't looked back.
 
Im on 2.3.3 and get a good 15 hrs of hard work out of this thing,which is very acceptable to me. I will probably try 2.3.5 and see if it improves in that aspect but I'm fairly happy as it is. I'm waiting for an official update from Bell but looks like I may wait forever.
 
my experience: when I switch of the packet data and the sync, I can use my phone almost two days for phoning and sms, quite heavily.
When I switch on packet data (3G) without sync and background data then it last about 8 - 10 hours. when I switch on sync and background data the phones dies after 4-5 hours.
If I use WIFI instead of packet data it gives me about 2 hours more.
The problem is actually not the email or web browsing the big problem are "news widgets", weather widgets, and twitter, facebook Google+ and/or skype etc......
But what's the value of my phone, if I cannot use the features I lke? Samsung offers now a 2000 mAmp battery and as far as I know the people are happy with it. However, be aware that there are some strange Chinese 2300mAmp batteries on sale. Don't buy them it's all BS. They don't work at all ....life time 6 hrs not more.
that's my private experience and may be different from other people's opinion
 
I bought one direct from Samsung - one of those 2000mAh batteries. Can't for the life of me get the included battery door to snap on though.
