I'm Returning My Evo 3D (Getting the Thrill 4G)

I am going to be returning my Evo 3D later this month. I am a new Sprint customer, 7 year ATT customer. I was coming from my iPhone 3GS which only ever had one problem: a battery that wouldn't retain a charge (Took it apart and replaced battery and it worked again without any problems).

Anyway since I've had the Evo 3D, Plants vs Zombies stopped working, the phone has frozen twice and I had to remove the battery. Sometime when playing videos downloaded in TubeMate, there was stuttering. I got a dead pixel (I tried the dead pixel fixer and it's still there, it's always black). Once my camera even got messed up and showed yellow lines, a soft reset fixed this problem but still.

Besides the software issues, I found that I prefer the iPhone's safari browser because I can see the keyboard, and the web page that I'm typing into. And I really don't care what other people say about how incredibly fast the phone is, it's not buttery smooth like the iPhone (I know most Android phones don't have hardware acceleration, but that's a problem).

Now I can say what I liked about the phone:
Sense UI is great! And honestly I think LG's UI is the second best Android skin available, but it's still a tier behind Sense. I love the Weather app and clock Widget, gotta find out how to get that on the Thrill. I preferred this screen over my iPhone 3GS screen, it's sharper and bigger, better for videos and YouTube. The 3D is great on this phone, the 3D camera is great and so is the 2D IMO. I can definitely feel the phone is more powerful than my iPhone.

And the BIGGEST problem with the phone IMO: it's on a inconsistent network, Sprint. 4G speeds are all over the place, but mostly the same speed as the 3G on my iPhone, which is slow for 4G. Voice coverage is terrible in my neighborhood (Not on ATT).

So I will be getting the Thrill 4G at the end of this month. And from what I have researched, it's slightly more powerful, has better 3D (a biggie for me), and best of all it's on ATT.

One thing, how do I backup everything I downloaded and have on my SD card? (Videos, 3D pics, 3D videos, downloaded YouTube videos, music, and the Green Hornet 3D movie?)

To my understanding apps are synced to your account, so when I activate the account on the Thrill, will all apps be downloaded to it?

You can either mount the phone as a drive and move your SD content to your PC or just keep the SD card and use it on your new phone.

You can just back up your SD card to your computer and then replace it on your new phone like you would do any backup

Google app sync works pretty well but I've found it doesn't always get every single app, when I changed phones I took pictures of my app drawer to make sure I got everything back

EDIT: seems like you've made your mind about this, but for anyone else who's interested, the Thrill has consistently gotten outperformed by the 3vo by reviewers, and it only has 1.0 Ghz instead of 1.2 Ghz so the claim that it's more powerful just isn't factual.

Just some hopefully helpful info for anyone interested :)

I'm not sure why you didn't try another 3Vo, but if you're having problems with Sprint, I understand.

All the reviews say the Optimus/Thrill has better 3D. From Phonedogs review the Thrill/Optimus didn't look all that smooth and wasn't as good as the 3Vo.

I also haven't experienced all this buttery smoothness of the iPhone.

Why didn't you just get a iPhone 4?

Not one of the specs on the Thrill is on par with or better than the EVO 3D. It has a lower resolution screen, half the RAM, a smaller battery, a slower processor, and it's ugly as sin.

Also, coming from an iPhone 4, the EVO 3D is both faster and smoother.

I understand if you don't get good reception with Sprint, but every single thing about the EVO 3D is better than both the Thrill and the iPhone 4, let alone the significantly inferior 3GS.

Perhaps you have a lemon?

Maybe I did get a lemon, but still I want to be on ATT. And from the benchmarks the Thrill is better for gaming.

The benchmarks are irrelevant because the Thrill has a lower resolution screen. These are the same benchmarks that say the 3GS is faster than the iPhone 4, simply because the 3GS has a lower resolution. Anyone with half a brain knows the iPhone 4 smokes the 3GS.

Oh ok. I didn't know. But the phone is tri dual, so the 512mb of RAM has 2 channels, making it work like 1GB of RAM.

Threads like these always turn to pointless performance arguments.

coolio86 - sorry it didn't work out for you, and as we discussed in the 3G thread, if Sprint's lousy where you live, you gotta do what you gotta do, and that's choose carrier first then phone.

Many good lucks with your new Thrill - it's all Android, so we all win. ;)

You'll always be welcome around here after you get your new phone, but for now, for this thread?

PS - Sorry to cut off the benchmarking discussion - but just remember, half of what you read, none of what you hear applies in these cases. You'll know all that matters once you have the new phone on the carrier that's right for your needs.
