I'm Screaming

glaven

Lurker
I unpacked my very first android tablet (Freelander PD20 with GPS and ICS 4.0.3) a few days ago and thus far I have had lost of fun with it. However, today a few things have started to puzzle me.

First, I discovered that there is no easy way to alter the brightness of the screen.

But I wonder if anyone can help me with the second problem, namely, how to delete (not just remove) the ever increasing number of widgets that have suddenly appeared. I have spent a couple of fruitless googling hours getting nowhere on this one.

Thanks in advance.

Widgets shouldn't just "appear", you should be able to long click on any of them and get a delete option (or a trash can show up that you can drag it to). There may be many "app shortcuts" on the default screen, you can drag those to trash also if you don't want them.

Should be a brightness option in "settings", or there are many widgets for that (Power Control may be on your device).

Other than that, I've never heard of that device.

Hi glaven.

Welcome aboard. I've moved your thread to our Android Lounge area for some faster responses. :)

Hi there glaven. :)

With ICS (Android 4.0.x) and later there is an option to automagically put a shortcut on the home screen when you install a new app. It gets to be a comedy of errors if you are restoring a device and it tries to install 75 apps all at once. To prevent that from happening you can go to the play store app then tap settings and un-check the auto-add widgets option.

To control the screen brightness you can also use a widget. open up your app drawer and select widgets (at the top of the screen) and look for "power control" the right most function is for screen brightness.

If you want to remove an icon or widget from the home screen, just touch and hold (long-press) the icon or widget until the "remove" option shows up at the top of your screen. If you drag it there, it will be gone. :)

Glad to have you here and Enjoy!

Hi guys

Thanks for the welcome and advice! I've unchecked the auto-add widgets option so at least I can stop them from clogging up the widget screen.

I still can't delete them, though. If I touch and hold the widget it appears on the home page where another touch and hold gives me the option to remove it. I can't seem to find a way to actually delete them from the widget page itself - I can't see a trash can. There appears to be no option other than dragging the widget to the home page.

If I understand your question you are wanting to delete the widgets from the widget page in the app drawer, correct? The only way to delete a widget is to remove the app that the widget belongs to. The widgets here are not running or consuming any battery, this is just where they are displayed so that you can choose what you would like to add to your home screen. Only after you add it to your home screen would it become an active widget.
