iPhone users also have the option to customize if they choose to jailbrake which IMO isn't that much different than rooting.
Now if we're not talking jailbraking or rooting, then out-the-box they're stuck with what they have whereas android has 3rd party options.

i dont think so...

there is a lot of things you can change without rooting.
look at all the launchers.. they can make it feel/look like a new phone.

but rooting does open a lot more.
