I guess the city decided I should cover the neighborhood's water bill for Christmas.....I figure if I can get 43,000 people to pitch in $1.00......

Oy vey!

Are you watering the city trees?

lol, that's the sad part. A tree that I planted 2 years ago died on me because of the drought this past summer. I was going to remove and replace it, but I guess I'd better hang onto it as proof that I didn't use the amount of water they're trying to bill me for. "Wouldn't you think if I used that much water, I wouldn't have a dead tree in my front yard!"

You got me to thinking about the way they handle water here where I live.

The bill comes from the city, but is termed, "Water and Sewer Statement."

For the longest time I thought they were somehow gauging the amount of water that went down our sinks, toilets, showers/baths and washing machine drain, along with the water use meter at the entry point of our house.

lol :o

lol, umm if they did bill me based on what I flushed down then that bill might be more appropriate... :o I should probably stop with all the "natural" supplements and protein shakes....

damn!... and you live by the river too!

That's probably what they're billing me.

how? was it just a misbill or what happened? decide the river wasnt full enough :P

I hope it's a misbill....Maybe someone from the Water utilities plant is trying to get their Christmas bonus out of me.

Here you go buddy, pay that bill with this and tell them where to stick the pipes...

If anything positive comes out of this it's that you're getting better at posting images on here. May be well worth the $42,000..... :p

I'm confused, they actually charge you for the water you use?

The bill HAS to be incorrect, hes being overcharged. "Someborry" read that meter wrong.. no way in hayale someone can use that much water....
....but, then again we ARE talking about TxGoat...heh heh

This happened to my dad once. He got on the phone with them and they realized it was a misreading and asked my dad to go out and re-read the meter for them.

The sewage is determined by your water usage tho. So if your watering your grass, your still paying for sewage.;)

Dear TxGoat,
This being the first time meeting you online and never seeing a post by you, I feel comfortable in saying.. Pay the dayamn bill and be glad you got water.

If there's anything else i can do for you , sir, please dont hesitate to ask. I'd be delited to say NO.

(sheesh, talk about an erroneous bill.) You should have this reported to your local news station, they thrive off stories like this! YOu'll become AF very own tv CELEB!

How do you not pay for utilities in Canada?

Well everyone has to pay the municipal/provincial/federal taxes, but there's no difference in cost between someone that seldom uses water and one that would use it all day long. The water itself is free, the infrastructures are not.

We also pay electricity, like everyone else. But...

In case you don't understand French, we've got the cheapest electricity. ;)

Dern socialist water'in farnerz! :p We're kind of weird about that in the U.S. Everything has to be profit based else you'll hear Conservative radio hosts about how our "socialist" leader is running this place into the ground.

One of these days I'm going to call into one of those talk shows and tell them that based on their position school zones are a socialist agenda. I mean you have to let go of the reigns of the market and let market forces dictate an outcome. If your kid eats the paste and likes to paint with his tongue then eliminating school zones would just let Darwinism do its thing, right?....but I digress.

As far as me going out and reading the water meter for the water department, I'll remind them that they charge me $45 to have someone come out when I need someone here, so I'll have to charge them as well. I might cut them a break since I'm already in the area....sort of.

Let that cat typing on your computer do the talking. i bet HE can get that bill down.

Seriously, the newstations here in my area would be salivating to get their hands on your bill and do a story. You know public attention seem to always get the job done.

Are they giving you a deadline to pay? are they even acknowledging that there could be a huge mistake in that bill compared to the trend of your previous 12 months?

I think if I could get my local media out here, I'd probably try to pull the "Heywood Jablome" gag on them and somehow get myself in more trouble with the water department. I sent them a screenshot with a nice "I think there's something wrong with your computers" in the subject line.

Actually there is far more cost involved for someone using 10,000 gallons of water vs someone using just 10 gallons. It's the same as someone using 10 times as much electricity as someone else. The person using more of said utility pays more than the person who pays less. Encourages people to not be wasteful or financially punishes those who are. Why would water be treated any differently than electricity. Just seems odd to me.

Well, enterprises that use a lot of water have to pay. Consumers do not.

I really don't know why we don't pay according to usage. How do they even know how much water someone uses? Maybe it would require modifications to the system and that would cost too much.
