I'm thinking about switching to Boost from Metro.

I'm thinking about switching to Boost from Metro:confused: (I want 3G and Cricket isn't in Florida yet:(). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? And does anyone know someone with the technical knowledge to flash it for Boost in the Central Florida area? My phone is rooted and I have no problems going in and changing the files I just don't know which ones to change.

Thanks in advance for your input.:D

I haven't looked into boost, but I know virgin mobile has unlimited everything for $60. Boost is probably similar. They both run on the sprint network, which cricket is backed by, so theoretically an ascend should be able to be flashed over. They are all cdma. Virgin has some decent phones. They have the lg optimus which I saw at meijer the other night for $150, and the samsung intercept which I believe was $200, but might be less now. As for finding someone to flash your phone, just call around some places in your area. I don't blame you for wanting true 3g.

Boost is running on Sprints network as well. Their plan is$50a month same as Metro. I plan on keeping my Ascend. If Boost is like Cricket I may be able to do a cricket flash and just program it with the carrier data. A guy at work had a HTC evo flashed over to Boost but I don't get to see him often, which is why I decided to post here. I don't mind paying someone to do something but I would rather do it myself if I can. (I was the kid that took his toys apart to see how they worked, my parents were a little worried the first time I took my computer apart. :) )

They do not carry the "True 3G coverage" that you are stating you want. I do suggest trying Virgin mobile. If they cannot truly do a full flash, There are people who can do it. I'm sure you can find someone who will be able to do it. ^^.

P.S First thing I took apart was a toaster. Now I take apart computers too! XD

Why do you think Boost doesn't have 3g? They use Sprint's network like Virgin does. I'm fairly certain that my friend at work said he was getting 3g but not the 4g that his phone is capable of. His wife has Metro and says there is a huge difference in speed.

***I don't think I've ever taken a toaster apart. Hmmm :)

Both of them. Metro does have 4G service, Thing is that isn't everywhere yet. They are still spreading their 4G coverage. My Metro phone is fairly fast but, I really have to say that comparing it to what other people on Cricket are saying, My phone is snailing it. I actually do not know if Boost has 3G or not, Nor do I really know about Virgin Mobile. I've never once used their services. I went right from Verizon (Previously I had Alltel, They were replaced by Verizon) to Metro Pcs. I've never had anyone on Metro pcs have the full 3G usage on an Ascend or even the Optimus for that matter...

P.S Toasters have an unbelievable amount of screws....XD

Well I plan on keeping my Ascendfor a while so if I can get 3g with Boost I'll leave Metro. I'll keep this thread up to date as I find out more.

***Lots of screws huh. Iguess I'll save that for a hurricane or something. :D

I think both boost and virgin are actually OWNED by sprint, so I'm sure boost would have true 3g.

Boost is owned by sprint/nextel so is has two services, sprints 3g cdma and Nextels Iden. But you can only get the sprint or nextel phones on boost service, if its not a boost phone, and if you happen to get a rep to put the DEC # or IMEI # on your service.

Well since Cricket uses Sprints towers for roaming I know the phone will work, unless Metro convinced Huawei to send phones with only 1x service (which I highly doubt). And a guy at work has a droid converted to Boost so I should be able to get the data from his phone and copy it to mine for tower locations and all that jazz. Or I could just go pay his guy $65 to switch it over (no fun in that though ).

Yes I know Cricket is using sprint towers and yes there are android phones on boost, but they are sprint android phones and if you could get boost, which is owned by sprint to put the ascend on your account it should work, but they want even think about it since its not a sprint phone, unless they have changed in the past year. I use to flash alot of nextel and sprint phones to work on boost, but never heard of one that wasn't a sprint or nextel on boost...unless you have someone hack the phone and change the dec# or IMEI# which is very illegal, its not like flashing or unlocking the phone.......Good luck and hope you don't have to pay and have all that fun...lol

I know what the IMEI# is we use Nextel for work (And I wish we had never went to Blackberrys) those are for the iDen network which if you have push to talk you are on. What's the dec#? Is that for the iDen network to?

No dec# is on cdma phones with sprint and boost and so on....yeah I use to be with nextel and and switched years ago to boost and I flashed the nextel blackerry over to boost and loved it for awhile, but then everyone I knew got away for nextel/boost and direct connect and went cdma so I switched....the best thing to do is go on craigslist and find a android phone from sprint, verison that has already been flashed to cricket.

plus go here and this will give you and idea of which sprint android phones can be put on boost. Products - VFC Mobile

Thanks for the info. I went to the site. I should be able to do a little research and be able to handle the carrier reprovisioning. And for getting the handset put on their network. It "should" be just a matter of going to a store and asking "Do you want my monthly business or not? I've done all the hard work (or had it done if I have to)".

If I can pull this off Metro is going to lose a lot of customers at least around here. Because I'm sure most Metro customers will switch if they can get 3G. :D

You're welcome and good luck, if u get it done let me know because you will be the first that I know of.

I want to switch to pageplus. Does anyone know how to do that?

What is pageplus? So someone can point you in the right direction. This thread is about changing phone companies so not many people are going to be looking in here, unless pageplus is a company that I haven't heard of yet.

*** Okay I just did a quick look into Page Plus. It appears to only be talking and messaging. Do you already have an Ascend? If so you don't want to switch because they don't offer data service and most of your phone capabilities would be useless. If you don't have an Ascend and are looking to change over to them, I would suggest calling them. I hadn't heard about them until just now.

If i where you i would stay with metro since boost has a very slow iden network. The only good phone that they have on sprints network is the curve. Also you can now use sprints network when using metro. Just wait for the 4g to expand and buy one those phones when they come down in price.

Oh I would never switch to their iDen network. I'm talking about taking my Ascend over to it and using their 3G cdma network. And I could be wrong but I think that Metro has their own network and towers, which is why we don't have 3G but they are getting 4G in certain areas and expanding that. They opted out of going 3G and went straight to 4G. If we were using Sprints towers like Cricket does then we would already have 3G. Boost originally was Nextel's pre-paid program and when they got bought by Sprint, Boost went along with it. Which is why Boost has both cdma and iDen phones. The iDen is for push to talk.

I don't think that cricket is using sprints towers except for roaming. They made a deal with sprint so they could claim nationwide coverage. I think metro has a similar deal with verizon.

That's what I was told. That's why I wondered how Metro could cover such a huge variety of areas. If they had their own towers everywhere then their "Extended home area" wouldn't be necessary as it would just be part of the home area right?
