Im trying to root my MID Android-for-RockChip-2818 Tablet, PLEASE HELP!!!

So i have tried multiple Instant Root applications for my Tablet, like z4root, Universal Androot, etc. None of them will permanently root my Tablet. It will Temporary Root it, but if i click on full root, it will root and then reboot. After it reboots, it is no longer rooted and Superuser Permissions no longer work unless if I do another Temp Root. Ive listed the full specs on my Tablet below. I dont know the manufacturer of the Tablet because I bought it from http://www.lightinthebox.com/ which is a china wholesale retail. This is the link to the device I have http://www.lightinthebox.com/Android2-1-Tablet-MID-7--TFT-Touch-Screen-Track-Ball-ARM-11-RK2818-600MHZ-DDR2-256MB-2G-Wifi-Gsensor-M98A1137PC06-_p162529.html

Its like after it roots and reboots, it seems Superuser and root privileges dont stick, they just get erased. And if I do a Temp Root using Universal Androot and use the Root Explorer app it will not let me mount the system as Read/Write, it only sticks to Read/Only so i cant delete any stock apps on the Tablet. And if I Temp Root, and go to Rom Manager and try to install a new ROM, it will boot into recovery, but i cant scroll to select any of the different options within Recovery Mode. Please help me! Can i permanently root my tablet somehow someway?!? Heres the specs:

How to flash a rooted ROM

Will this work even if my Recovery menu wont let me scroll with my trackball? Because everytime i temp root my device, and go into ROM Manager, and click "reboot into recovery" it will reboot to recovery but i cannot scroll to select any of the different options with my trackball. and the only other buttons i have are "esc", "menu", and "power", and the menu button reboots the device. any ideas?

When your trackball becomes unresponsive when you try to reboot in the recovery mode, just wiggle the usb connection at the tablet's port (with your thumb on the trackball) until you see the exact spot it connects and begins to scroll correctly. I read somewhere that you have to find the usb's "sweet spot" during this process, and I believe it--a small adjustment had my trackball working in less than 5 secs.

Now, I have a question for you...do you have a rom of the original factory settings for the tablet that you would share with me? When I used the link suggested earlier in this thread to flash a pre-rooted image to my tablet, I lost all capability to use the touchscreen. Although the trackball works, it doesn't go as far as allowing me to select factory reset from the tablet itself. Here is a link to the exact tablet I have:

Android 2.1 C-MID Tablet with 7 Inch HD Touchscreen + WiFi - US$ 149.99

Any help anyone would have would be appreciated!!!

Hey

I think your problem is that your partition is cramfs. You can read up on it or figure out if it is by typing cat /proc/mounts then finding /system and see if it says cramfs or yaffs2 after it. yaff2 is what things like root manager are for. Google cramfs, it's a bit more complicated.

Community Devices.

Is there a way to change cramfs files to rw? I'm think the following files on my tablet may be causing my superuser permission to be denied:

/dev/root cramfs ro
/dev/block/mtdblock4 cramfs ro

I'm a total novice and have only rooted one other device-- my Droid Eris. That was easy as there were clear, step-by-step instructions to follow. This tablet is very different! I have searched several forums for answers, but can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Device Info:
Model TR718D (resistive screen--maybe an apad 710?)
Firmware: v1.02.04-2010.11.8_public
Kernel 2.6.25
Build number Vo18.ECLAIR.eng.R.zmg.20101014.162937

I happen to have the same tablet as cThomas as far as specs go... and i would like to get the stock Rom/image file so i can reflash my tablet. I tried using that z4root program for temporary root, and it seemed to work at fist but then the tablet started to get force close pop ups about the android core... i restarted the tablet but the problem persists. So im stuck at that point.

If anyone can upload or show us the link to get this image we would gladly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I have a two tablets that are Android 2.1, MID, resistive screen, trackball, 7 inch, 2.6.25 Kernel, etc. and have those pesky cramfs files.

Here is the complete specs of the tablet for which I will provide a link to stock and root images. (I have flashed the stock firmware interchangeably between the devices without any problems, which is why I believe it may be an option for you. )

Ematic eGlide, MID, 2.1
Firmware: v1.02_14.13-MC_EN-2011.01.13
Kernel: 2.6.25_(V140_HY2_RHJ)
Build number: VO.18.ECLAIR.R.zmg.20101112.142908
Release Codename: REL
API Level : 7
Board: trout
Brand: rockchip
Fingerprint: rockchip/MID/MID/trout:2.1-update1/Eclair/eng.zmg.20101112.142908:user/test-keys
ID: ECLAIR
Processor: ARM926EJ-S rev 5 (v5l)
Sensors: Rockchip 3-axis Accelerometer: 3.0 mA

Here is a link to a folder with the stock firmware and my rooted rom for the eGlide (resistive screen with trackball). The rooted image is nothing more than the stock firmware with root added (cramfs unpacked, su and superuser added, repacked).

As always, flash at your own risk, but I think this would work for you if you can't find the original image for your tablet.

Hi Sunigirl,

I checked out your eglide and it looks exactly like my tablet! The specs of "cthomas" and our tablets are very close. my tablet is branded "Android tablet PC" maybe the same Android-2-1-C-MID-Tablet, but with some many names its hard to know which came first.

I flashed your hacked (rooted) image and it works great! it looks just like it did when i first got it. only difference is my first boot screen was the green leaf background with water drops as other people have.

I tested everything out and it seems to work perfect... but there is something i cant get yet. that is to have all FLV files to play, because only some are playing at the moment. perhaps i have to try and tweak things or reinstall some things to get this working well. this has happened with android phones ive had and it required a clean flash... so it might be that.

Back on my original image i had installed Dolphin browser and when i would change my "User Agent" to Desktop, i could check out websites as regular sites not in mobile format. So i was able to go to certain websites like Dailymotion.com and the FLV file that would be trying to play, would invoke the pop up to ask me what player i wanted to chose from. i would select the default video player and it would play the flv file with no problem.

Imagine that without the need of flash installed, i was able to play flv's from websites! of course not all worked but many sites did, and that is what im working on now.

Thank you very much for your help and source of files, because now im back to a good stable firmware that i will adjust. you are a lifesaver!:);)

You are welcome!

If there is anything else I can do...let me know.

As for Flash, I didn't add it to my rooted ROM as I was trying to keep everything as similar to the factory installed ROM as possible. However, you should be able to Google it and install it easily.

I don't currently have it installed on my tablet, but let me know if you have problems finding it. I believe I have a copy of the .apk somewhere on one of my backups.

Good luck!

Sunigirl why can't everyone be as helpful as you? It looks like your eGlide is the same as my MID except that the eGlide doesn't seem to have any camera. If I flash it to my MID will I no longer have a camera, or will it work if I just install the camera app afterwards?

I have the dreaded "Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" error and I think flashing a new rom is the only way to fix it. What I really want to do is put 2.2 on it, mainly so I can install apps to the SD card.

Anyhow, I am going to flash the rooted image and see what happens.

Thank you again for your ultra-helpful post.

My eGlide custom rooted rom does have the camera, so I'm expecting you should be fine. Personally, I download and use Camera 360 app from the marketplace--it's a great camera app and has lots of fun features.

Let me know how your MID works after flashing--good luck!

Desperately trying to figure out how to get the Kindle app to work on my eGlide. It's running Android 2.1. Anyone help?

I realize I answered in a different forum, but am reposting to your question for anyone reading this forum that is having the same problem.

I recommend downloading Calibre on your pc/mac and installing the Kindle plug-ins. This will allow you to strip the drm from your kindle books on your computer and convert it to a format for the eGlide. Please note: if you are able to read the book on your pc or Kindle/Nook/etc., this will work. It will not allow you to remove DRM from a protected file that doesn't belong to you.

For detailed information and instructions, I recommend reading the following before starting--it should answer any questions you may have.

Ebook Formats, DRM and You

Just in case, here is the link to the program (calibre - E-book management) as well as the additional tool package (Download tools v4.0.zip).

As for reading on the eGlide, there are several free ebook readers on the market, but as I mentioned, I really like MoonReader Pro. There is a free version that works just fine...I just like all the bells and whistles for the reading on my Droid X and eGlide.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help and don't forget to click the "Thanks" button if I helped.

I have a strange issue with my eMatic eGlide. I really like it except for this issue. If I set the time/date, and then shut it off, it boots back up with the default date of Dec 31, 1969. No matter what I have tried. I can't get the date to hold. I am assuming that it is some sort of cmos battery problem, but I haven't been able to get any help from their support. Any ideas?

Hi,

I would like to start the tab in recovery mode to install the new android 2.3.3 from the 2.3.1, but despite trying all combinations, the tab refuses to start in recovery.

Any one face this issue? any recommendations?

My tab specs are below:
1. 1.2 ghz ARM Coretex
2. 512 ram
3. android 2.3.1 9gingerbread)
4. No base band.

I got my daughter a 7inch Ematic Funtab with Android 2.2 and have tried to use some of the one-click root methods to no avail. I would love to put gingerbread on it but can't find any roms that will work (rooted or not). Any help would be greatly appreciated..
