Immediate Delivery of Email?

Yesterday I took the plunge and bought a Droid X to eventually replace my Blackberry Storm 2(put the X on a non-primary line I had, just to learn how to use it). The first thing I noticed was that I was not getting immediate (within seconds) delivery of email, nor immediate notification (vibrate or tone) that an email has arrived. On my Blackberry, the arrival and notification is immediate, even if the Blackberry is in "sleep mode" to extend battery life.

Is there an option to make the X more timely with respect to email delivery and notification?

I think it checks about every minute or so, I use the builtin gmail app on my vibrant and its roughly about one to three minutes or so when it checks for new messages. As far as I know there is no way to adjust the time it checks for new messages but in the settings you can change the notification sound and wether or not you want it to vibrate.
 
Are you using a gamil account? Your main gmail account is immediate. I do believe pretty much everything else is fetch. Blackberries blow every other smartphone out of the water in terms of email connectivity.
 
gmail is virtually instantaneous.

You can have gmail read your pop3 email account and forward just the mail you wish by using filters.
 
Thanks for all the responses. I am using comcast.net as my email account. It would be difficult to switch to a gmail accout, but not impossible. I will consider it.

No need to switch, just add a gMail account and have gMail read your comcast account for you and forward pertinent emails (or all of them) to your gMail account. Making sure replies appear to come from your comcast account is an issue, but there are ways around that.
 
You can have your gmail account check your comcast account, but that only happens every 15 minutes or so. the best way to do it is to go to your comcast account, and forward everything to your gmail. that way, as soon as an email comes in it will go to your gmail and be in your phone within a few seconds.
 
The best way (IMO) to do it is install the K-9 email app from the Market and configure your email for IMAP Push/Idle through there, which will give you instant notification of any new emails just like the BlackBerry. Much less hassle that way. The K-9 app is great.
 
K-9 would be my suggestion, too. The stock Motorola email app has failed to push emails and just flat-out stopped delivering them far too many times for me to ever trust it again. K-9's reliable, and has some great features. The latest update even added a quiet time option that kills the notifications for a time period you specify.

Correct.
We run IMAP at work and I just turned it on and it worked.
When I get an email I get a notification near instantly.
I use Thunderbird and Thunderbird gets the message first and my phone gets notification around 4-5 seconds later.
To me that's acceptable :D

I run courier-imap at work and had to enable idle support to get push email working.

I went to the Verizon store this weekend to pay my bill at the little kiosk thing they have. Went through, swiped my card, paid it all, and before the receipt was done printing, my DX had gone off in my pocket from receiving an e-mail from Verizon saying I had just paid my bill. GMail = virtually instant notification. If that's what you want, make the switch. Sounds like there are other ways of getting instant notifications from other places, but GMail is all easy and integrated.
 
Exchange push does not function correctly. It just stops working. I did not have a problem with my Droid Eris so I know the problem is a Motorola problem. If you doubt me just do some searches. Sad.
 
The last few days I have been having issues with not getting immediate push notifications on a hotmail account that I know I set up correctly to get push emails. This morning I woke up and it seemed to work just fine, I had notifications for several @msn.com emails, 2 of the 3 that were in that account. Then I got an email from Verizon about me needing to pay my bill. I went to the Verizon website and paid my bill. Like Hrethgir I got an immediate notification, but unlike hrethgir my registered account for billing purposes is my @msn.com. Not sure why it worked for those emails this morning, and for the billing one this afternoon, but it did. Boy it would be nice to have it consistently working. I'm a new Verizon customer and Droid user, a convert from the iPhone world, so was surprised when basic things like push email from my @msn.com email account didn't seem to work at all. Today has given me a bit of hope, we'll see if it continues to work though.

For some reason push email appears to be working for me today, anybody else? I sent myself a series of test emails from both of my email accounts on both the phone and the laptop and got nearly immediate notifications in all times. One time the gmail notification was even a little slower. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it continues to work, but if it does, then it's one more thing that I can cross off my list of issues that I had with the phone in comparison to the iPhone.....btw sorry to double post but I thought it was relevant information.
