Don't install ROM Manager in Galaxy Ace. The phone will get bricked. The phone won't turn on at all. The unbrick methods won't work.

Only solution is to got to the service center and get replaced. You may not get the warranty also.

Little bump of this thread for you.

Let me know if the consensus is that this is still true. If so, I'll sticky this thread for you guys.

Any supporting links / information to include here would be good, too.

Cheers!

I actually installed rom manager to get cwm5 installed on my phone, but I didn't get to put the recovery mode, because I couldn't see SGA on the list of phones. After that I rebooted and installed the cwm5 from the stock recovery. What I'm trying to say here is that just installing it, didn't screw up my phone.

thats true.
rom manager tells you to download cm for your device (even if cm 5 is installed on your phone) where ace is not in the list.
without downloading cm, the sceen does not have any other option but only 'cancel'.
so, i believe, rom manager is useless for ace.

I did the exact same thing. Got my phone rooted, installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM on it. Then I clicked "Backup Current ROM" and pressed okay which made the screen go blank. I have tried everything and the phone refuses to turn on. Tried using Odin and flashing the original Ace Gingerbread ROM which I downloaded but it doesn't work. I'm off today to my network provider to take it in and plan to claim that it simply ceased working, fingers crossed they'll believe.
One question though. I tried backing my current ROM up with ROM Manager while the phone was in normal mode. If I backed up in CWD mode, like I have seen people use across the web instead, would I still have the same problem or could I flash a custom ROM with no problems?
Cheers in advance.

It does work. You need to know what you are doing. I have been using it for 4 months.

Most people who post on here Nathan will read this the wrong way and try to flash CWM and brick their phones. Just look through the threads. Think before posting as not everyone is as clued up on it!

Completly agree!

If you value your galaxy ace, don't go anywhere near rom manager!

Just got my ace back from samsung after i bricked mine by attempting to use rom manager.
Luckily I got it fixed for free under warranty; the phone was absolutely dead so would have been ny-on impossible to diagnose it as rooted.

I will now be keeping my phone standard!

Yeah, ALMOST killed my Ace aswell !!! Luckily i got it into recovery mode and all is well now, i use CWM & ROM Toolbox now which works for me ;-)

I think it would be a good idea for you to explain how you installed it and how you use it rather than just saying you need to know what you are doing. This might help people stop bricking there phone.

Luckily I never ventured onto rom manager.

CWM made by the same dev is perfectly safe tho, just flash it via the stock recovery instead of rom manager.

Then CWM and odin between them can do everything you need.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR WARNING !!! I just wanted to install rom manager, cause i'm planning to install CM 7 on my Ace, but then i won't use ****ing manager. thank you very much you saved my phone :)
