Help Imported contacts will not sync with Google...

Hocky

Lurker
I picked up an Atrix yesterday, coming from an iPhone. The guy at the AT&T store copied my contacts from the iphone and dumped them to the SIM on the atrix and used contact->import from sim to import them into my contacts list. All seemed fine, except when I started digging in today, I noticed that none of these contacts will sync with google. I added a new contact, it syncs fine. Upon inspection of the imported contacts, I see each them has a link to an "unknown" duplicate contact and I see no Google link. On the newly created contact, there is no duplicate link and there IS and google link.

Anyone have any clue on how to clean this up? PITA. My thought was to dump the contacts list to CSV on my computer, upload to google, delete all contacts on phone, and let google sync back. Unfortauntely, that is easier said than done as their doesn't seem to be any straight forward way to back up the contacts to my PC. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to AF, are glad you are here.

This is not the cleanest way but it works. Open contacts, press menu --> morew --> Import/Export --> export to SD card. You can now delete them if you want, since the next step will put them on google. Then do the same to import them from the SD card, but select google as the location to import them to. It will take a bit but they should now import into google and then link the phone contacts to gmail so they do not double up.

Well, the old contacts would not delete for some reason, but after importing them again, it did import them to google properly.
