Help Importing contacts

I am trying to import my contacts from my HTC Desire to my new Nexus4. Any suggestions?

Are they tied to your gmail account? Do you see them if you log in to your gmail account on a PC and head here: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#contacts

If yes, when you link the new handset to the gmail account, they'll sync and appear.
