Help Improving video quality

I converted a movie avi file to mp4 using the free "any video converter". As the converter's website recommends, I set the frame to 1280x720. But when watching the movie, they're is some chopiness and the quality is not as good like when watching a you tube clip in hd. Is there anything I can do to increase the video quality?

Id like to know as well because I jut used anydvd to rip ironman 2 dvd and the quality is good but id like it to be hd

Just out of curiosity, why are you guys ripping to MP4? I watch all my DVD rips in Divx format and it looks absolutely amazing. I ripped my DVDs into Divx using AutoGK which is fairly old but still works really well:

I did this with a Blu-ray rip that was converted to mp4 and it looks fantastic!!
