I remember the many "gimmick" goods for sale in quite a few publications.
Let's see ... there were do-it-yourself lasers, custom dog tags, some type of "switch blade" and the ubiquitous x-ray glasses.
Back in my day my friend and I answered an ad in the back of some cartoon or magazine to sell personalized Christmas cards. We promptly received order forms and we set out selling these expensive but cool Christmas cards. We were to make like a buck per order or something. We turned our order and money in before the deadline and we had around thirty orders to be printed. We were so excited to be in the big bucks. A couple of weeks before Christmas our customers started calling... where are our cards??? They did arrive before February. Needless to say we had some irate customers.
One of our disgruntled customers was our gym instructor. We ran laps and did pushups the rest of the school year.

That's a cigarette lighter. It's the original use for what is now the power port in cars.

It's also what we used when someone came storming up to the car boiling over with road rage. Amazing how effective a well placed hot item can cool a person off.
Back in my day, my buddy and I spent an afternoon trying to find the battery drain in his mother's 1959 Caddy. It was a cigarette lighter. passenger side, rear seat that wouldn't spring back after getting hot.

Space seem so small, but someone blew it up.
I do! Lots of trips to the basement as a kid, we all knew how to change them!

Fuses can still be purchased. Most hardware stores carry them. These are just one of may types.
Yes I remember changing them as a child.
