Help Inc2 can receive calls but not make any

in case any1's interested

got used off CL for $80 without box or cables, but with an extended battery

the guy claimed over email that it was unlocked - he was clueless - was talking about screen locking...

anyways, I got it right b4 my trip overseas - unlocked it there for $10 and reflashed it with revolutionary/sense stuff

apparently I was removing the back cover too often while trying to unlock it myself - the guy that did unlocking pointed out at a small crack in the GSM antenna contact on the back cover and said that caused a weak signal

back in the states got a new back cover along with extra battery for $30

now, with my tmobile sim card I can
- browse Internet,
- send sms,
- receive sms, and
- can receive phone calls

BUT I cannot make phone calls!!!

any ideas on what's wrong? when I push the button to dial, it attempts, and then drops it after half a second...

I did switch to dual gsm/umts mode.

any ideas?

Well, did I mention, I was able to make calls while overseas... It's here, in the States, that I experience those conditions I described. What is "three back of the phone"???

If the only thing that has changed between when you could make calls and now can't is location, I am apt to blame something in the air :)

What kind of signal does your phone tell you it has in settings>about phone>network?

Does it say you are roaming? Who's network are you on according to your phone?

Something isn't right.
