*** YOU CAN USE CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY TO UPDATE TO A3 ***

(copy to sdcard, then boot into clockworkmod, choose the a3 zip from /sdcard, confirm yes..)

* do a nandroid backup just in case

* you can also clear /cache if you want

* there should be no need to clear /data.

Alpha3 change log:

* Last prominent form of "sleep of death" fixed

* Webkit backing store(smoother scrolling)
* Bluetooth DPad/arrows do not rotate with screen
* Battery stats now available to Android
* Serial# now populated
* Shorter hostname as a result of serial#
* General wifi fixes
* Preliminary Touchpad 4G support(no radio)
* Status bar should take less resources after an app goes full screen
* Possible fix for A2DP and wifi interference
* Possible fix for SD card not mounting
* Camera FPS improved but still nearly nonfunctional

Make sure you set your date after installing or updating. :D

My wifi isn't working.

Disconnect, reconnect... nope.
Forget, re-add... nope.

Guess I'll reboot into webOS, since that magically helps.

EDIT: Yup, that fixed it. :D

Geez, who wears the pants in your family? :D

I wear 'em, I'm 28 and I live by myself :D I realize my post sounded like a neutered male who's wife was making them do chores before they can have fun, bu that's not the case. I was working on rerunning the lines on my kegerator :D

And I'm up and running, btw. Only "issue" I've noticed is the theme I was using on 2.1 is causing status bar FC's. It has nothing to do with 3, though, just something I noticed

edit: the new screen off animation is incredibly sick! Reading through the thread on rootz, tried out the Samsung email app, it's also sick, definitely nicer than the gmail app, IMO. Here's a link if anyone's interested and instructions on how to install. The instructions didn't mention clearing data on the email app, I had to, but YMMV

Guess I should take that back.... "do you wear the pants in your family OR DO YOU HAVE A KEGERATOR TO CONNECT". :D

Galaxy Tab email app doesn't work with exchange... missing support files. I checked that out before, but never installed for that reason.

I had no issues last night with the update other than a somewhat time consuming wait for the zip file to download.

So far it seems stable. One challenge I am having is that Tasker does not seem to want to play nice with WiFi on my TP. Now I think it was acting quirky on Alpha 2 so it may not be Alpha 3's fault... but WiFi is now turning itself on and off without benefit of a rule to enable or disable WiFi (and no airplane mode either). Odd! At the moment I've disabled Tasker and will likely take some time over the weekend to try to troubleshoot...

Hi all, at the risk of sounding dumb, can anyone tell me how to do a nandroid backup please, also do I need to back up and restore apps first with titanium, or will my apps be there after the upgrade :-)

Here's a good guide for making a Nandroid (recovery backup): [GUIDE] Make a nandroid backup. Do it...now! :) - RootzWiki

Usually the only apps that show up in Market after activating a new device will be paid apps. Of course you'd want to use the same login for all your Android devices if you have a lot of purchased apps.

A recovery backup (aka nandroid) is an image of your android rom with all it's settings. In other words, you can easily restore the entire rom (or just all user data) as it was when backed up days or months ago, but not easily just one app.

To backup/restore apps, a file backup program like Titanium Backup is better suited. The free version will backup and restore just one copy of each app, but if you're going to restore all your apps, be prepared to have to "click" 2 or 3 times for each app you restore. (3 times if it's already installed, o/w 2 times). The paid (Pro) version of Titanium lets you back up multiple versions of each app and multiple backup scenario types and you can batch restore all your apps with just a couple clicks.

This is a little dated, but here's some help with TIBU: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/257054-titanium-backup-101-a.html

Alpha 3 installed. Seems fine, but Alpha 2.1 also seemed fine to me.

Wish they'd get some 2D acceleration going; the screen off and screen transition animations are still awfully slow. Nonetheless, it's great having such a cheap Android tablet that runs so nicely!

Anyone having issues with the brightness button in the notification shade?
