Increased Money related spam

In cleaning out my email, in the last few hours, I have received at least 45 messages from all kinds of people telling me that my bank deposit is ready, my funds have cleared, click here for one million dollars held in trust.

Is there something odd going on? I never say so many messages in one day like the ones I got.

Just curious, I suppose.

Most of it. I am not worried, just curious as to why all of a sudden, it is the same general kind of message from many different sources.

That's really strange, as of recently I just started to get similar messages. I have reported them as spam in Gmail but they keep coming back and always show up in my Inbox, instead of throwing them in the spam folder.
