Seems unlikely the Incredible 4g wouldn't be affected as well, probably didnt get mentioned since it doesnt have an offical release date, could also explain the plethora of evidence verizon intended to release it on the 17th but no announcement to that effect.

The patent in question is very specific, and HTC knew about this in december, I find it unlikely they would infringe on the same patent in sense 4, but I'm not sure (even though I feel this patent is obvious and should be struck down, but it wasn't)
 
I'm pretty certain customs deals with public safety (pests in foods, diseases), counterfeit goods (fakes), and money laundering, and the big one smuggling (drugs, weapons). Patents are dealt in court, ie. if HTC did infringe on some patents, then they would be forced to pay X amount of dollars.

page three, second paragraph. Customs has bigger crap to deal with than patents. ITC handles that crap.
 
Pretty sure customs is stopping the shipments, while the trade commission investigates the issue.... . "The US Customs investigation dates back to an order by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) last December. The ITC ruled that HTC phones did violate one of Apple’s patents —a patent (US 5,946,647) related to detecting data items within otherwise unformatted content. HTC had until April 19 to fix the problem or face the ban of all infringing phones. Though the One X and EVO 4G LTE were both unveiled after the order went into effect, and the One X has already been on sale at AT&T, the ITC order was extremely broad, allowing US Customs to ban the importation of all HTC “personal data and mobile communications devices” that run Android and infringe on the patent. If this problem isn’t cleared up quickly, the upcoming Droid Incredible 4G LTE by HTC and the HTC One V could also face investigation and ban."
 
Awesome. More delays. Perhaps Verizon already recieved their shipments of the Droid Incredible 4G? Hoping so. But its definitely not looking like itll be released tomorrow
 
There is no way it is released tomorrow, Managers would know and it would have leaked more places.

1. The fact that you can put a patent on taking an action based on some text on a screen is completely ridiculous. I am not sure which is worse, that Apple actually filed for this patent, or it somehow was granted.

2. Years ago there was a big todo about HTC phones (Or maybe it was just Android in general) and pinch to zoom, and whether it was infringing on an Apple patent. I do not recall that issue holding up the shipment of phones. The only reason this phone is not yet on sale is because Verizon has chosen not to release it.

3. Thank God we are stopping these dangerous and illegal phones from getting into this country and stimulating the economy. We should all sleep better knowing that our tax dollars are hard at work, keeping the bad phones out and promoting safe and legal iphones.

I'm all for patents where they are justified, but this is ridiculous. Someone please tell me this is not true.
 
I found a picture of the Incredible 4G on Verizon's website...it shows a picture of the phone related to an accessory. The web address shows the phone ID as #5892. I tried to go directly to the phone's page using 5892 as the phone id, but no luck. It's not much, but it's something...

Verizon is announcing that they will no longer allow grandfathered $30 unlimited data plans when a customer moves from 3G to 4G. This may be one reason why they want to keep the price low on the Incredible 4g - to encourage more subscribers to migrate to 4g where they have to purchase a shared data plan. Makes that upgrade a little less attractive.

well, then maybe I'll just get the One X or one S now that Verizon wants to piss off loyal customers.

Where are you seeing this no more grandfathering news?
 
Wonder when they plan to do that? There is no date in the article. Also, what would that mean to current unlimited customers on a 4G phone?

This is awful, so any one of the 5 on my family paln upgrades and the rest of us lose our data plans, not to mention the fact that it'll be too difficult to track data usage spread out amongst so many devices
 
So I pay $160/month for two lines and Verizon wants to take away service and charge me more? Ohh man, I hope it was the CFO just speaking out of turn and I hope the CEO slaps him in the face.
 
So does this mean if I stay on 3g Verizon will honor my unlimited data and I'll be grandfatherd in forever. If that's the case I will keep my original droid Inc and unlimited data.

no it means two years from the start date, EVERYONE will be on non-unlimited plans.



That is of course, if we can sign up for 5 yr or 10 year contracts.
 
Well if it happens I'll be done with big reg is I don't get upgraded before it happens. That is the only thing that has kept me with them the past 6 years. I have been with them for 9 but kept that first phone 3 years.

They can use whatever excuse they want but this has everything to do with the new iphone getting LTE this fall. They will get millions who want it and Verizon found a way to make more money out of the consumer.

I have been with them for 11 yrs and this puts a bad taste in my mouth. Verizon is getting so greedy they will end up losing their best valued customers.
 
The one x on at&t is looking so much better nowadays. If I lose unlimited data when the inc4g is released then I am jumping ship. Its the only thing that's keeping me on verizon
