Incredible as a Music Player

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet.....

Subsonic. Subsonic Music Streamer - Android app on AppBrain
Seriously. Just get it. It's sick. And much better with the most recent updates. Especially for those who are ruining their sound quality by compressing their mp3s, since they're running out of space. That's tragic.

Also, if you listen to a lot of underground music, Last.fm blows the nuts off of Pandora. It's also got very good sound quality, for the most part.

Subsonic is awesome. You can get plug-ins for it so that it will convert any music file to a playable format on the fly. Works great, sounds great, and doesn't hog the much of the battery. The only issue I have with it is that after the latest update, the play icon stays up in the notification bar even after I'm done using it.

Last.FM rocks. I've been scrobbling music to it for 4+ years so the "My Library" station is pure awesome.

As for media players, I use Meridian. Works nice and it has the best widget of all the players that I've tried.

At least the guy who runs the Subsonic project is an android user, so you know the bugs in the app will get fixed :)

You can actually get subsonic apps for iPhone/iPod Touch as well, but they're third party.

anybody know how to transfer a iTune playlist

I've figured out how to get all the songs from a playlist onto the incredible; but can I actually transfer the playlist details so I don't have to setup a new playlist in the Inc?

I also use my DInc as primary portable music player. Like others, I paid for MixZing. I bought it for pretty much one reason and that's the lock screen widget. It's essential when playing music while driving. Does Subsonic have a feature like this ? It's one I can't live without and wouldn't even consider another player if it's missing.

Since this is a thread about the DInc as a music player, this question should fit. What is your preferred method to sync music ? I use Songbird as my player on my desktop PC, but it's sync capabilities kind of suck. I use an addon that let's me export playlists and from there I use MediaMonkey to sync that playlist to my phone. I've got about 600 songs or so. Until I get a bigger SD card, I don't really want to sync full albums.

I see now MixZing touts easy syncing. Anyone with MixZing care to comment on it's syncing abilities ?

Subsonic doesn't have that feature unfortunately, but I have hundreds of gigs worth of music on my PC and that is what makes Subsonic essential to me.

I haven't found an easy way to sync to the Incredible so I just do the drag and drop method.

Subsonic does not. It doesn't have quite all of the functionality of other music players, but YOU DON'T HAVE TO SYNC ANYTHING. It streams music from your home computer, and yes the sound quality is fantastic over 3G. I have mine set up to stream at 256kbps over 3g, and have had no issues with buffering. Essentially I have 500 gig of music storage that I can take anywhere with me. That alone outweighs the couple missing features. Although, Sindre has been adding a lot of stuff lately, so their might not be much missing for long.

subsonic sounds nice, but is not a replacement for an onboard music player (kills more battery, won't work if you have no service/in airplane, etc)

I read that doubletwist will *soon* have access to onboard storage which will be awesome

I also would like an EQ app.I am mostly a pandora user so I don't have much music on my Incredible so I stick it on my internal storage and retain my factory 2g sdcard. I really liked "3" on my Eris but had to switch to MixZing which I have grown to enjoy, I think it's the only music player on market with internal storage support? Another feature I like about it is the ability to designate a folder for storage so that you don't have every mp3 ringtone in your phone showing up in library.

I've also owned the ipod and zune hd. Android music playing experience sucks. period. Zune hd is probably is the best mp3 player, but doesn't have the app experience that ipod or android have. This is actually why I'm excited for the windows mobile 7 phones. While i'm not sure if the zune like interface will be good for an entire phone's interface, at least i know the music player will be amazing.

There are just so many small glitches, and inconsistencies in the android music playing experience it's almost unbearable. Here are some of my issues.

-Album art not always read correctly even with my songs with all the correct id3 tags
-The player sometimes needing to take a minute to find everything on my sd card
-Can't rate songs in the player and have ratings synced back to computer
-No equalizer
-The cover flow is terrible and useless. i would rather it just not be there
-The repeat and shuffle icons are invisible in sunlight
-No stock google support to synchronize music. I've tried wmp, it synced only half an album, i haven't looked into it. I sometimes want to change playlists or which specific music or albums i have on my phone and don't want to have to browse through the file system on my phone
-The user interface isn't intuitive and easy to navigate for people who haven't used an android phone. I've had people try to change the song while playing music in my car or on my home speakers and they always ask "how do you work this thing." This isn't to say that the ipod should be mimicked.

The only good thing about the music player is that it supports live last.fm scrobbling and that it actually manages to play my music

I feel like google is being lazy and expecting people who care for good apps to download 3rd party apps. This doesn't just go for the music player, but the stock messaging app too. Double twist and handcent sms are saviors but double twist doesn't support the storage system on the droid inc yet so i can't use it. Mixzing, btunes, tunewiki, meridian are all OK, but none of them combine full functionality with an attractive and easy to use interface

3 (aka cubed) has lock screen control.

Thanks for the heads up on Subsonic. I'm playing with it now. It's pretty cool.

Until I get a 32GB card I will suffer 128 bitrate. Hopefully they will be much cheaper in the coming months.

I use Double Twist to both sync and play my music.

Also, you can ebay sport arm bands that will allow you to exercise with your INC while it plays music.

So I downloaded Subsonic...

...if I don't have wireless or 3g connection, I can't get to my music, correct?

This is not a good thing for me as the only time I listen to my music is when I'm playing poker in the casino and I don't get service :(

doubletwist is working on internal storage, I think this will change a lot

They stated this quite some time ago. Most android phones released in the last few months have internal storage right? Kind of surprised this isn't an easier accomplishment. But what do I know?

For me, the most important thing I want from a music player is Last.FM scrobbling. Meridian can do that and has the best looking widget which is why I use it the most. Once they add that functionality into Subsonic, it will be the best option out there.

I don't need all of the bells and whistles that some need. I just want to be able to use the DINC the way I use my itouch so I don't have to trudge around 2 units..What would be the app most closely related to the itouch for music playing?

Also, how do I even get my mp3 files from my mac to the DINC, as well as already set playlists from itunes??

I just tried loading about 8 albums in mp3 format onto SD card. I created a folder called Music. The stock player sees the files but 3 and DoubleTwist do not. Can the music not be on SD card, or does a specific folder need to be used?

Are you sure you put them on the SD Card? I had the same problem initially and it turns out that they were on the phone storage and not the SD card. Seems like a stupid question to ask but sometimes it's the easy solution we don't see.

You can use a file manager app like Astro to look at the files on your phone.

All my music is on my SD card and all the players I have used have found it.

I also placed mine in a file I named: Music.

You may have accidentally installed it into the internal phone storage.

If so, you can use Astro to move it as well.
