Incredible grounding flaw?

My screen is unresponsive and completely black until I press a button on the top. Then I can slide the unlock bar down and it starts working again. True story.

Yeah, i have the issue...its only an issue on hungover Sundays and im laying on my couch comatose (watching Nascar or football, or both) and drooling and i get a text and my phone is on the floor. I am too lazy to pick up the phone to look at it...so i leave it laying on the floor (second story...wood sub floor...it does work on my basement concrete floor by the way) and i cant unlock the screen. But it doesnt really matter because i wouldnt have responded anyway. Usually about dinner time i feel good enough to pick up my phone and go through messages.

after waiting 3 weeks for the phone, i just got it yesterday and noticed the issue by this AM! i had the phone sitting on the table during a meeting and wasn't able to push the bar up to send it to vm. happened yesterday too but thought maybe I didn't know what i was doing. so is there a fix? tin foil in the back cover? I emailed HTC and got this RIDICULOUS answer:

I understand that you are having issues with the touch screen on your new Verizon Incredible. The screen is a capacitive touchscreen, which means that the screen works off the static electricity from the human body, in this instance, your finger. The screen is coated with a transparent conductor. Since the human body is also a conductor, touching the screen causes a distortion of the body's electrostatic field. This change in capacitance causes the screen to react. When you are only touch the screen, the current is not complete. This is why the phone reacts strangely while it is in a case or sitting on a flat surface. To correct this behavior, you will need to hold it in your other hand as you move about the screen. Other customers have also been able to rub their hands together befor touching the screen in order to build up the charge.

REALLY??? If i click my heels together, will it take me home too?
Its not really that big of an issue but its principal and at least apple offered a solution even if it was duct tape. I may return it just based on this answer but if someone knows of a fix please let me know

I had this problem in 2.1 but it is not noticeable in 2.2 -- no thanks to all the useless posts above, but this was a real issue.

The capsule summary: phone sitting on desk, either on or off charger, a single extended finger on the screen didn't always register. This is a common situation if you're working on the computer with the phone on a headset. The screen would always register IF my other hand was "very close", touching or if I touched the phone with other fingers on the same hand.

My Incredible had this issue PRE FROYO 2.2. It no longer does this.

I would have the phone laying flat on my bed and the touch screen was either sporadic or unresponsive. I no longer have this issue.

I also see those videos were uploaded BEFORE the Froyo update.

Me too. Pre Froyo, I couldn't have my phone in my car dashboard mount because the screen was unresponsive. Now, it works flawlessly.

I have gone through 3 Incredibles. 2 new, one refurb, two with 2.1, refurb 2.2 and I dunno what u guys are talking about I've never had this problem on any of them.

I can confirm this issue as well. My wife and I both have Incredibles. Mine didn't have the issue, but her's did. The Froyo update solved the problem. On a side note, the update also fixed the problems that I had with the camera freezes on my phone.

I had this issue with my car mount. It was pretty consistent, and it made it difficult if not impossible to unlock the phone with one finger while driving so I got away from using it for a while. I used it this week and was pleasantly surprised to find this flaw had disappeared. It was an odd feeling, as I expected it not to work, but it did. Repeatedly.

I suspected the update, nice to see it fixed.

The problem is real. I could not get it do do anything in my car cradle unless I either had it plugged in, or had my thumb in contact with the body as I used my pointer finger to navigate. This was also true when it was sitting on my couch or any thick fabric. After the 2.2 update the problem disappeared. I was surprised by this becasue I thought for sure it was a hardware problem that could not be fixed with a software update.

I had this problem with both my original and my replacement. The update did fix it. EVO had the same problem and they fixed it with a software update, so I was hoping they would add it into this upgrade.

I think it is important to say that not ALL the phones had this problem so I don't know why people keep posting "I did not have this problem".

How do you know they all didn't have this flaw?
It only happened in specific situations. I went weeks without encountering it, except when in a specific mount (m2) and Verizon hard case. It never happened in my silicone case.

I know because I tried a few (friends) that did not have the problem.

Either way, what is your point? It is fixed now.

I had this problem too. Noticed it when I used it in a windshield mount and I couldn't do anything. I read that it was fixed and tried again today and it worked.
