Help Incredible reboot loop - is it hardware?

I have a HTC Incredible with a reboot loop. I know this is a common issue, but let me expand a bit.

Basically the phone works for a while and then suddenly reboots into the loop. If you take the battery out and wait for a while it will boot normally and work properly (for a while).

Over time the period that it works normally has shortened and the length of time it takes to recover with battery out has increased.

This progression makes me think the problem is some hardware component deteriorating with age.

Of course it could be software, and I'm working at flashing it with an earlier version of the software. I've already unlocked the bootloader, but am having some trouble with getting recovery to work.

Neglecting the possibility of software for the moment, is there actually a known hardware malfunction common to these reboot loops. If so is it practical to get it repaired out of warranty?

It is probably a hardware issue. I had three DINCs with this issue. As far as getting it repaired, I don't know of one, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I wouldn't say there is a known hardware issue that causes it, but your phone could of developed one. Only way to know is to do a factory reset and run it bare bones for a few days. You cold try repairing it yourself, there is parts available online but who knows what you should replace.
