Incredible S vs Desire HD

The DHD screen is only 0.3" bigger than the "S" which is significant to some and not so significant to others ;-)

Also, as Brucew0617 just mentioned, the "S" has virtual SRS WOW HD sound. Admittedly I wouldn't say that the sound is any better or worse; when I was shopping around for the "S" and the DHD I didn't find any noticeable difference in the demo.

I have a Desire. Am due an upgrade, really no idea what to upgrade to.

Was looking at the DHD but the battery life has put me off. Then thought about the LG O2X but the price has put me off. Then thought about the IS, but it doesn't seem like it will be much of a worthwhile upgrade?

No am thinking maybe the Nexus S?

Someone make my mind up for me please?

What about the Samsung Galaxy S II?

If you're coming from a Desire then going to a Nexus S is the same as going to an Incredible S. Nexus S and the Incredible S are similar from a spec stand point. If you're trying to make a big jump in upgrade from the phone you have then the best option would be a dual core phone with a ffc and bigger screen.

NZ dollar is pretty piss weak at the moment. Don't really want to spend the cash on a dual core.

Aside from the headache that my missus would give me for having spent so much on yet another phone? not much, maybe a slight speed improvement.

Personally speaking the current discussions on the web about dual-core this and dual-core that for mobile phones is a bit long in the tooth. I still cannot fathom what the overall expectation is about this subject.

It's all about the overall end-user experience: if the phone is quick, slick, fast and responsive then it exceeds its objectives.

(My family and friends all seem to have the ubiquitous Apple iPhone. I found the Incredible S just as fast if not faster).

With that said the Incredible S ticks all the boxes. For me anyway. I highly recommend it.

p.s. You need to ensure that there's enough change left over from your money - there's always shoes and handbags that she'll need! :-)

Yeah the Incredible S sounds like the phone I will get next. Just need to find the best price??

Oh gawd, don't go giving her ideas :p

May I ask for your input?

I found this place after looking for infos about HTC cellphones. Still undecided between a HD and Incredible S. Or should I wait for the Samsung S 2?

For me is a nice screen interesting, enough capacity, speed BUT also a nice sound. I tried the Desire Z but was unhappy about the low sound. Is it better withthe aforementioned? Or would you recommend another one?

The sound from the headphones or the sound from the main hands-free speaker?

Please enlighten me once and for all: Is the HD faster than the IS? Some sites say that HD really is faster - but that doesn't make sense to me looking at the specs. Anyone tried both? What's the truth?

haris9: the internal storage was the thing I was really, really, really disappointed about when HTC launched the "S series". I thought they had learnt from their mistake and gone for at least 8gb of internal storage from now on.
I have the Desire today, and I can't even install new software updates anymore cus of low internal storage space. (yes, I've moved all apps available to SD card, and deleted ANY apps on the phone that's not necessary for me.)
So needless to say, I was gutted when I saw just about 1gb ROM on the news phones as well.

Really wondering what phone to get next now.

Yeah you don't really need yo buy a new phone. To solve your problem permanently, root your phone and install Cyanogenmod, and use an adapted internal partition table for Cyanogenmod (alpharev). Very stable gingerbread release. Good luck.

-jetnag (no I don't work for them, I just like the software)

No one will have super amoled appart from Samsung until samsungs new manufacturing plant opens up in a few months time. Samsung can only supply themselves with the quantity.

I had a Nexus S and the touch screen sensitivity was weak. Im glad I switched to HTC just for that.

You should try it before you sign up for 2-3 years.

Anyone planning on operating their phone one-handed will find the Incredible S much more manageable.

I spent ages at Carphone Warehouse looking at these two. Originally the sales guy and Team Leader were convinced I should go for the DHD because of the bigger screen, however, having played with both, used the camera etc we were all utterly convinced by the IS because of the screen quality. The colour and clarity is way better and I'm guessing that's as a result of the Super LCD screen.

I've loved my IS since I got it but then I was already sold on Android and HTC Sense.

If you compare the stats, both run the same processor, both are upgradeable to 2.4 and the battery life isn't too dissimilar. With heavy use I've had to recharge each day but then I use Wi-Fi at home and have updates set regularly.

The IS feels nice in your hand, sounds good (the call volume is amazingly loud), and generally there is no lag at all. I'd highly recommend it.

Drummond, is IS camera wit 8 megapixes and 720 hd recording same as desire hd? i saw a lot youtube that the IS camera solution come out wasn't better than desire hd...i was confuse in this part...

I agree. I've just bought the S and it is my first android after being a blackberry fan for the past 7 years. I am glad I changed. I don't know a great deal about android phones yet but if I were BB and Apple i would have a few concerns. Androids have certainly raised the bar when it comes to smartphones.

Excuse my total ignorance but I am moving from a PDA where I never used it for Internet to a Smartphone (Incredible S or Desire HD most likely).

I am wondering what the browsing performance will be like if I had Gmail + Yahoo Mail & Messenger + MSN open and listening to music at the same time. Will the browsing be slow or reasonable quick?

Also any info on the clarity of Phone conversations on the HTC would be welcome.

I looked at a couple of Galaxy S phones in the stores but the screens seemed very hesitant to accept my finger scrolling across an Icon whereas the HTC Desire HD seemed to work every time.

Thanks in advance to anyone prepared to help a novice:)

Browsing performane should be fine and acceptable with the above-mentioned tasks...you should just STAY AWAY from the Galaxy S if you want a great android experience, I just sold off my Galaxy S (IT WAS TERRIBLE)....get the HTC Incredible S, IT's AWESOME!!
