Incredible using Gorilla Glass? HTC says so...

I had a blown speaker on my day 1 Incredible and called verizon to send me out a replacement. Before I sent the old one back I tried with all my might to scratch the screen just so I know what it can take. I used my car keys and scratched as hard as I could on the phones screen for a while and it didn't leave one mark. I then stepped my game up and used the sharp edge of a pair of scissors and it didn't leave one mark. I used a knife and tried super hard to leave a mark on the screen and nothing happened. Needless to say I no longer use a screen protector and still haven't had 1 scratch on the screen. It also feels nicer without a screen protector to me

Screen protectors are like condoms. They take away from the REAL experience.

I put my Eris through hell and back. I dropped it down a flight of stairs, exploding on the way down (Imagine a car going off the cliff). Put the battery back in, backing and case back on. Booted up like a champ.

That being said I was working on my car, had it sitting on top of the engine. Shut the hood on it. Split the screen spider web style. Everything still worked minus the big crack. lol Replaced days later with a new digitizer. Phone worked excellent. These HTC phones are pretty tough. I went through about 20 blackberry curves I think. And Razr's sucked too.

HTC does not use gorilla glass. indefinitly...i asked my boss today and he pretty much lost his lid. the answer i got was "that is proprietary information". like im an htc employee (tech support) well as techy as 3 weeks of training gets you.

I have a scratch in my refurb. It's deep enough to feel with a fingernail and at least three eights long. I used a Steinheil protector on my first dinc for many months with no problems. In two months time it's replacement received a scratch. It lives daily in my front pocket with nothing but lint for company. It's never been dropped or treated in any fashion I'd call rough or abusive. In fact, it's handled with loving care at all times. Just how it received this nasty gash I can not say. I can attest to the fact they can be scratched however and highly suggest quality protection.

I use Ghost Armor on my iPhone 4, and my company just bought me a Droid X for work purposes. I'm definitely going to be getting my Droid X done by Ghost Armor. I can throw my phone in my pocket (with not a huge case on it as well) with my keys and not have to worry about having a scratch on my screen.. love the stuff.

Check them out http://www.ghost-armor.com

I used a promo code GA4LIFE and i got 20% off my order - if your thinking about using them to protect your phone..

I've seen too many people who say, "Oh no I'm not using any screen protector cause i have Gorilla Glass", only to see their phone with a bunch of scratches all over it!! NOOO THANK YOU! lol

If it is indeed using Gorilla Glass I find it odd they haven't mentioned it in the tech specs, nor have any reviewers. With the droid it was a hot topic and selling point.

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
I've read (sorry no links) that whether they can use "Gorilla Glass" (i.e. Corning brand name) in their promo material depends on the licensing from Corning. Some do, some don't. Some pay, some don't.

That's an old web page which has been previously discussed. The page is incorrect and htc has said as much both from direct verification and the fact that it was never in the specs. Moreover don't drop your inc on concrete or you will find the truth yourself.

I can tell you for a fact that not only is the glass not 'indestructable', you can and will get glass splinters if/when it breaks. Once my new replacement for the replacement shows up, I'll post a picture of my original droid that I accidently drove over this past weekend. I've had several glass splinters already while trying to access the data on the phone. Amazingly, it still boots up and works even though the screen is totally destroyed. On the off chance I can retrieve some of the data from it, I ordered a replacement screen and I will see what happens with that before I send it back to ASSurion.

maybe the AMOLED screens are gorilla, and then they changed them with the SLCD is not gorilla? if had my amoled for months and put it in my pocket with keys eveyrthing and its not one scratch. it's like I dont give a shit about the inc1 and it doesn't get any scratches and i baby my inc2 and somehow it gets scratched. even with a case i managed to scratch the black paint off the aluminum front. god willing i dont get charged for it.

The original amoled inc was extremely fragile. I bought several sensors which are separate from the amoled btw. A drop from a couple of feet is all it takes.

One of my field supers drove over his X the other day with his truck. No broken screen. Phone is fine. It has survived many violent drops in the field.

The site says they both have the same gorilla glass.. inc1 built quiality is questionable

I've dropped mine quite a few times from about 5 feet (onto pavement) and hasn't broken *yet*. I have an original amoled. No case, no screen protector. Has one very minor scratch at the bottom of the screen.

I dropped mine once from about 5 feet. It fell apart - that is cover fell off and battery fell out. After I put it back together it worked just the same. I do use and recommend a screen protector though.
