Incredibly fast GPS fix

Just wanted to post to put people's minds at rest if they had concerns, ahem, concerning the time to obtain a location fix.

On my S3 it takes about 4 (FOUR) seconds to get a fix after an app such as Maps turns on the GPS.

This is amazing for me, coming from the Desire which took about 30sec to a minute sometimes.

Somewhere in my internet travels I saw that the s3 uses the glonass satellites. Not sure if this is a common feature in consumer grade gps devices yet. It might account for the fast lock...more satellites=more better?

I've still got my HTC Desire HD and have noticed that the speed of getting a GPS lock in Google Maps has improved dramatically since the last Maps upgrade. Other apps used to get a lock pretty quickly, so I assume that Google hadn't optimised Maps but now has.

This is due to GLONASS and also the barometer. GLONASS isn't common yet, only the Note, 4S, Razr, S3, and S4 Krait versions of the One X have it.
