Help Instagram upload problem

Hi! Instagram on my mom's phone can't upload any picture. When attempting an upload, pictures can be chosen but the software will just freeze when it goes to the Filter selection screen. Also, the space where the chosen picture should be is just a black screen. After a few seconds, it will resume to the Home page. Other than that, Instagram works fine. I can browse my friends' pictures, etc. But, I can't upload anything.

The phone is on Android 4.1.1 and has a "Modified" status. It was already like that when it was bought.

Have you tried clearing the Instagram cache and data via Settings -> Apps -> All -> Instagram -> Clear Cache and Data?

Failing that, what about reinstalling?

Hi! I already did both of your suggestions but to no avail. It still keeps on crashing when I try to upload a photo. What could be the problem?
