Root Install infoalarm.apk

I kinda miss the Daily Briefing app and found the apk file but it fails to install. Any clues or help is appreciated.

how are you trying to install it?

Me too. I tried side loading, tried copying it to system/app and data/app. No luck. It always fails to install.

Can't you use Astro to install something like that?

Downloaded and tried installing through file browser but it fails. If I copy it to /system/app no luck. I DLed a deodexed version and moved it to /system/app and it launches but when I try to choose a city the process locks and I have to force close.

The deodexed apk seems to work, can add stocks, see news and my calendar, but as soon as I tap add city in Accuweather, it errors out.....

Ned, What is a deodexed version? I am not familiar with that.

If you guys are on froyo, it is no longer part of the rom.

I downloaded DI01 Deodex rom and pulled InfoAlarm.apk out of that and moved it to my DL30 system/app. The only thing that bombs is 'add city' in accuweather. I am not sure why.

2.1 apps may work on froyo but I suppose its to be expected that they're not going to work 100%....I mistakenly used a 2.1 deskclock.api initially and it worked but the settings were screwy and text was way off

If you don't mind I have some questions regarding rooting.

I had followed the XDA instructions

HOW TO: Install DL30 (aka Froyo) - xda-developers

I had to follow Rooting regardless of OS

THEN I followed on from step 2




So I had to flash with odin and currently have
the DL30, Update, Busybox and New_CWM on sdcard.

I see there is a new CWM_Froyo, would that replace my New_CWM? in the steps to follow? I kinda of grasp what is going on, but would you mind explaining what each step achieves.....

OK so I think I have gotten an OK handle on the CWR stuff, all is running and seams ok. I did finally find an infoalarm.apk that works.

So what apk did you end up using to get it to work?

It was in a darkys rom i downloaded, the one that works is 7.6 megs the one that doesnt is 6.4 megs I can E-mail it to you if you like. PM me if you want it.
