Install Same App, two different versions at once?

is it possible to install the same App, but two different versions at the same time? I love Palringo but I heard a lot of people complain about the newest version. I didn't update it until I found a way to backup the previous version as an APK before I updated. But I wonder if I could somehow alter the apk of the older version so the Captivate thinks it's a different app?

Why don't you delete the new version and install the older apk?

EDIT: The Android system will just ask you to update the installed app it since they're the same, just an older and newer version.

EDIT: Never heard of altering the app and making it unrecognizable as a similar app. idk, maybe you can.
