Root Install SC 2.9.2 or wait for ED01 2.2 ROM?

Apparently the source code for ED01 (Froyo) just dropped from Samsung. I was thinking about installing SuperClean 2.9.2, but is something better based on ED01 in the works now? Should I wait? I think I'm currently running a variant of DJ09 (2.1) with a VooDoo kernel.

That's another good question. Aside from memory, is there any way to find out what ROM / Radio / Kernel I'm running?

It always sounds scary when you read the huge lists of instructions, but it is amazingly easy. Just as easy as it was to root and flash the voodoo kernel you have.

Yeah, I'm just going for it. I think I've got the right idea:

1. Flash Modem (DL09) with Odin by booting in to Download Mode. Remove battery & SD Card, reinsert battery, hold down volume down button, plug in USB. Select DL09 tar file in the PDA section of Odin and click Start.

2. Wipe all data via ClockworkMod. Use Rom Manager to update CWM recovery, boot into it by booting into recover and running update.zip. Do a backup, then wipe data.

3. Still on CWM, select zip from SD card and install the ROM (SuperClean 2.9.2).

4. Still in CWM, select zip from SD card and install new Kerne (EB01). I originally had a voodoo kernel installed, so instead of going up to a new voodoo kernel (which is not recommended), I disabled lagfix, am going to install a non-voodoo kernel, and then if I still have issues, I'll go up to the voodoo kernel.

Does that all sound correct? The initial trick is to do enough research to make sure I'm installing the right combination of Radio (modem), ROM and Kernel.

I'd recommend just following the instructions here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][Radio][4.10.11]EC01

That will get you to EC01 (which really is ED01) and you don't have to worry about disabling voodoo or anything. A lot of those instructions you're referencing are outdated.

I went through the install already via the process I detailed above, and everything seems to be working fine.

The only hick-up I encountered was that SC 2.9.2 can't be installed via CWM 3.0 because it doesn't support some scripting function. Adrenalyn recognizes this issue. I just installed via CWM 2.5.x Lagfix recovery which is what I boot into initially before applying update.zip to get into 3.0. Worked fine.

Now I'm just setting up everything. Remote Backup (VZW service) isn't working... and it seems that this rom is US-Cellular based... but that's ok. Google synced my contacts and such...

We'll see how it all works. Froyo's pretty sweet so far.

I'll probably end up upgrading again based on whatever the developers make out of the new ED01 source code Samsung just released. Hopefully there'll be a new Superclean.

There is supposedly a new ROM in the works based on the latest source that they've been working on.

also, you might want to look into running the latest modem (EC01) with your superclean setup. Many people have this setup and have seen improved signal and GPS performance.

I've found another quirk. It doesn't seem that my clock has a timer, now. I used the timer all the time. Is this normal?

The clock app that is installed with SC is the aosp version, no timer or stopwatch. I have the TW version if you need it pm me.

Thanks for the tip. I'll go with the EC01 modem. Although my radio/gps seem OK, it might be better.

So that link has the newest rom and is the latest release as of today? I'm already running 2.2.1 froyo with superclean 2.8... Thinking of following those steps in the link and then updating to 2.9... Any suggestions?

Sounds like Verizon finally announced their official 2.2 version will be out tomorrow.

Should I go to their stock or wait for a custom rom based on it? Superclean 2.9.2 is running nice without voodoo, but maybe Verizon's is better?

I'm guessing VZW's is a branded and bloated ED01 build.
