Help Install updates without service

Hiyas, i got a bad esn galaxy s4 (cricket) off ebay, on purpose. Everything works fine as a secondary media player and gaming phone. Only problem i have is i cant update to kitkat, and im sure any further updates as well for lack of connection to a service. The phone has no sim card as well. Is there a way to install System updates from usb, or a rom i could install via odin thats already updated? Thanks in advance. =)

You should be able to do the updates via WiFi - go to Settings .. About Phone .. System Updates and hit the Check Now button while you're connected to WiFi.

Have you made sure that you have unzipped the firmware .zip file so that you have a .tar file?

Taken from the download link I posted earlier...

"Instructions
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes
