installation aborted when installing cyanogen mod 6 on (sprint) cdma htc hero with google

and also when i move apps to the sd card, does that just free up space on my phone? or will it also make the phone run faster? the apps run faster?
will they run off of the card? or is this just for storage?

Not all apps can be moved to the microSD card. The app's developer has to enable that feature for it to work.

Moving apps to the microSD card frees up space on your handset's internal memory. I am pretty sure that moving apps over to your microSD will not speed them up and it might even make them load a tad slower because the microSD card is slower than internal memory. It will not be very noticeable though. So, I would not worry about that.

sweet! thats working now :) thanks so much, and the last two things that i can think of before im ready to go is 1.) how come now at the top of the screen (next to where it shows how many bars of service i have) it shows 3g with 2 arrows? when i was running 2.1 it always showed ev or 1x. now i know the phone is capeable of 3g speeds. but in all the time of having the phone i never once saw 3g on android 2.1. how come updating to 2.2 is giving me 3g speeds in my bedroom now? im not complaining im just wondering why i didnt have 3g speeds before too being as the phone was always capeable of 3g speeds.

and 2.) is it true that with a rooted phone you can get all the paid apps for free? for example... getting the full version of shazam and having unlimited tagging again? im not much worried about it because when they came out with the update i never updated and using appinstaller it saved a copy of the old version to my sd. so i installed it off my sd and still have the old version with unlimited tagging :D but it would be nice to get the new features too without loosing the tagging ability

It shows 3G because the CyanogenMod 6 ROM is based on the Nexus One version of Android 2.2 and that is a GSM handset. Regardless of whether it shows "Ev" on your old stock Android 2.1 ROM or "3G" on the CyanogenMod 6 ROM, you should be attaining the same 3G speeds. The symbol "Ev" is just the CDMA version of "3G" and it means basically the same thing. You can download the free FCC Speed Test app and check your speeds if you like.

I would not know about getting paid apps for free. I believe in the practice of paying the developers if you are using an app that is very useful to you by purchasing the paid version. If these developers are not making money on the apps then they have no reason to develop new ones or maintain the old ones.

so i have a question, after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?

Download this zip, put it on the root of your sd card, nandroid, flash, and enjoy your texts again....

thank you so much! what is it tho? and what difference will it make? and can you give a little more detail please :) like i put it on, nandroid to save the current 2.2, and then what? load this zip? or reload the nandroid backup with this on the card and it will change something? cuz im wondering if ill lose everything or if i should use the backup app.

and just wondering what the problem was and what this will do also! thanks so much!

Just put it on your sd card, like you did with the rom, do your nandroid backup, then go to the flash zip from sd option in the recovery menu, and choose the mms fix zip. It should be quick, then choose reboot. I don't know exactly what it is, but the dev released it as a fix for those who were having issues with text/ picture mail.

ohh ok. thank you soooo much! im very exited about this because i was actually considering going back to android 2.1 if this was a software problem! :( cuz like... whats a phone without texting? haha but this is awesome! thanks again

oh and another thing, what files do i need to leave on my sd card? like the zip files that iv used, (one to root, one to install 2.2 and one to do this sms fix) i can take them off after i flash right? to free up lots of space on the sd? like it doesnt continuously use them right?

And theres a few other files it put on when i rooted like recovery.img and a file called unrevoked... and it added a folder called .android_secure that has a bunch of asec files (some of which are named after my apps) do i need this? or was it only used for rooting and now garbage? (or is this a folder from titanium backup)

and a folder called clockworkmod that goes 11 folders deep and then has a file called ROM%20Manager. whats this and do i need it?

for all of those im just wondering if they are files continually needed/used or if any of them were used for rooting and are now garbage and can be deleted to free up memory card space.

Probably got a corrupt download, try to redownload it, delete the old one on the sd, put the new one on, and try again...

i dont think it was corrupt, i think it didnt work on rc1, because i kept getting that on rc1 but it installed first try on the new nightly. what does that do tho? like what exactly does it fix, and how do i unflash it if i dont like it, because sooner or later that will probably get fixed in a nightly so i wont need it flashed from the zip if the nightly fixes my texting problems.

i dont really understand the problem tho... sometimes when i send a text it switches to 1x and sends, sometimes it stays in 3g and sends, sometimes it wont switch out of 3g and it will say sending forever and not send. so idk if that zip has to do with this problem?

ok so i figured out the problem.

my phone cuts off text messaging and for some reason makes it stop until reboot everytime i try sending a message more than 160 characters, so now i have to use handcents split message option wich is annoying in my chat having them all split up. so i put 160 split on and now they all send 160 max and it doesnt freeze up. but i still dont know why or how to get it back to normal? and froyo mms fix didnt work. and neither did fix permissions :(
