Root installed tnt lite and nothing works

After months of enjoying the Gtab stock I took the plunge today and installed CWM and then tnt lite 4.4 - when I start up my tablet nothing works. I have a screen telling the current time and that my wireless is not connected but the side buttons do nothing, touching the wireless icon does nothing. I just won't do anything. So, before I make things worse, what should I do??
 
I would wipe data/cache and reflash.

Redownload the ROM before reflashing, you may have a corrupt download for whatever reason.
 
I did as you suggested, and it was working fine. Installed some apps and was quite happy with the TNT lite. Turned it off and came back hours later use it and same problem, It has a lock icon on it, but I did not set a lock, and when I press the press nothing happens. Why is it locking itself and how can I fix this? Do I have to reboot every time?
